Short VIN #'s and Insurance Co.

Can anyone tell me your experiences with getting an insurance co. to accept the 10 digit vin from my bike. its a 72 and reads S650-114XXX etc. and the ins. office doesn't know what to do with it because their system only recognizes the 17 digits I assume.

From the Wrenchmonkees "XS for Paris" build: Looks like the lower of the two mounts has been modified, but I'm very interested to know what the originals came off of.

    Need help with VIN

Everyone tells me I don't have enough numbers/letters in my VIN. The tag on the neck says vehicle ID number 4M4-004507. The same is stamped into the metal in the neck and the front lower part of the motor. It' supposed to be an '80 model. Anyone have an idea of what I have?
