I am restoring a 73 sx650 and need to know the original OEM fork tube length. Want to make sure I do this right.

Do you have a set of the original forks for a 73 TX650? It was called a TX650 in 73. It was never an SX650, it's an XS650. If you do then you can measure what you have. Depending on the condition the tubes you have can be fixed.
A 70 was an XS1, 71 an XS1B, 72 an XS2, 73 a TX650, 74 a TX650A, In 75 it became the XS650B The following years were all XS650's they just changed the letter after the 650.
76 was a C, 77 a D, and so on. They didn't use I. Not sure why.
From 78 on they also had the Specials. And has an S in the model designation As in 78 XS650SE. They made the Special II as in the 79XS650-2F. It had looks like a mix and match of parts from a Standard and Special.
81 was the last year of the Standard. 82 on they called it the Heritage Special.
