1979 XS650 I found one...

I replaced the stock handlebar today (they are temporarily mounted until I figure out wire and cable routing). The weather wasn't cooperating so I didn't get very far. I also replaced the handlebar bushings to get rid of the slop in the bars.

Hmmmmm.....I think I'll be adding a couple of sets of those bushing to my next order as well.

If you don't want to buy bushings, you can add washers under the nut to let you tighten the old bushings more.

Many times the added leverage of those silly buckhorn bars makes you think the bushings are worn. They could be just fine with normal bars installed. In other words, don't throw the old ones out just yet. You may need them again in a year or so when the crappy repops shit the bed.

Trying out the new cleaning machine now with some Ninja 250 carbs that have had fuel in them for 6 years.

Okay so today's update is good and bad... New master cylinder added, and stainless lines. I pulled the carbs but one slide is stuck... this should be fun.

Be very very gentle with slide...I'd spray in some WD40 or something of that nature overnight before trying too hard on it.

Others may differ - but you might try playing a hairdryer over the carb body to warm it up and expand it.

You can't put in too much heat or you risk damaging the delicate rubber diaphragm - and those are expensive.

I didn't see anyone mention it yet but if you need new stock air filters you re-foam the old ones for a fraction of the price of new ones.
The foam comes in a sheet from UNI.
HTH,
Jim

Le sigh...

I found two jets in the bowls... Am I missing any others? I've never seen a set up like this.
