Can anyone tell me if parts out of a 79 engine will fit in my 80 engine?
I've got a 1980 special, and I found a few engines (1979), I'd like to pick up for parts, but would like to make sure I'll be able to use the parts. I'm mostly interested in the cam, crank (and bearings), transmission parts, not so much worried about clutch or electrical.
Any help much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the parts you mentioned will swap. The '79 cam will have bushings installed for the advance rod because it's a points model, but that won't hurt anything.

Thanks so much! I found two motors locally, not running or anything, but I think I'll pick them up for parts.

Thanks again

I recommend you renovate one of the sump filter and plate assemblies so you have a spare to swap in at oil changes, also the small side filter. Having clean, ready-to-go filters on hand greatly speeds the oil change process. You'll likely find the sump filters torn but they're easily repaired using JB Weld .....
