British Columbia xs650 build

ditched the trumpet deal....I got them cause the looked mg42 ish, but I think they look cartoonish.....went with angle cut slight turn out. quick/quick shot of flat black primer and loose wrap of black wrap tpo see what it looks like....I like it. Baffles are bolted into 1 1/2 pipe right before it moves into 1 3/4. other side done tomarrow, then onto a mounting point for the pipes toward end of week.

Aft mount for exhaust....anhedral style

-xs650-hardtail-custom-exhaust-mount-1_zps9af6ae2a.jpg

i did double wrap both sides with exh wrap when I tacked it to get the tolerances right...took one side off and then remembered to take a snap

I will use t-bolt clamps to secure pipe to mount as well as hold down wrap....did the same deal on my HD and it worked slick, and can get the pipes off in 30 seconds

"oil tank"

battling this one a bit......having a hard time thinking the typical faux oil can looks good..........I could easily go without one period....but maybe if I found the right look it would be ok.

So I thought what about mounting it linearly.......be easy to have some airflow through too with maybe a cool vent at the front.

think the current plan would be coil, solenoid, and fuses in the can, ignition key/switch mounted on the back of the can so you access by reaching under the seat.........voltage reg under the batt.........kill and blinker momentary's on the bars

Thoughts / feedback appreciated

:)

little bit more....

sharpie mark on front is going to be an air vent - perfor metal on back like battery tray

bolts are layer arounders and will most likely be all the same :wink2:

front vent on "oil tank" - prob do something similar on back to exhaust and allow flow

My fab plan for the inside should allow me to weld the front on, and only bolt the back for access........we will see if I can pull that one off.

on my HD I used a 4 position starter switch ............ with the 4th position being momentary start...........and was able to do away with the starter relay and the starter button.

just installed a kill switch to stop power from going to coil.

Now on the xs....it seems that what everyone is referring to as a solenoid is actually a relay...

and therefore I should be able to do the same thing.....

Does anyone know if I can use a 4 pos starter switch not install the stock relay...?

This is the ig switch I have......

think I like the way it came out - might make some to sell - since they are custom I would have to charge based on how long it takes me to make each one..........since I make at least $3.40 per hour....each one would cost $14,019

lol ... more time in this than I expected, but I do think it came out ok

Viewed from front - spark wires at top - more than likely I will have wires in and out via tubing at bottom center of front plate

def no room for the starter relay in the tank....would love to be able to not mount that

Fender test . . . . . back and forth on this one. This is a chopped HD rear fender.... I dusted it silver so it would match the current look of the bike so i could decide if I like it.

Still on the fence, and unsure if it will be rigid enough with just one mounting point.

please submit votes :D

there was no way I was going to get away without having a rearward mounting point...

this is the end result -

now onto brake stay and linkage, shift lever, headlight
