Changing from 7/8" bars to 1-1/8" bars

hey everyone,

i found some really nice bars that i love but the problem is they are 1-1/8" instead of the usual 7/8" jap bars.

my problem is can i use those universal bar riser/clamps that are 1-1/8" instead 7/8"? is there much work involved in getting them to fir the triple clamp?

Short answer, yes you can fit them to the xs650 trees.

You will also need 1 1/8" controls, grips, etc.

Thats a big bar, any pictures of it?

You probably don't need to change the controls, if its the same bar i'm running on my 400.

it's an easy swap and looks great!
i'm an old dirtbike rider and had those clamps laying around, just bolted them in.

Most of those large bars have 1 inch ends so you can use stock Harley controls. Or any 1 inch controls.

Gents,

Wanting to go Pro Taper Evo 1 1/8" on a XS.

Will the stock controls fit on these bars? Not thinking they will.

If not...options for replacing controls to make this work.

Some of the big tube bars use a 1 inch tube where they go through the risers, then the big tubes are welded onto the 1 inch tube. Then out at the controls the reduce back to 1 inch tubes to use Harley type controls.
You need to determine just how those 1 1/8 inch bars are made.
If they are 1 1/8 inch tubes at the risers then you will need to get 1 1/8 inch risers, just unbolt the stock risers and bolt the new risers on.
Out at the control end what size tube are they? Probably 1 inch. If so you have two options. Use 1 inch controls or cut the 1 inch tube out and replace with 7/8 tube so the stock controls fit.
