6 mile ride are these ok?last evening I took point plate off off bike. Unwired coils and points. Rewired all back together. Than was able to static time the bike. Seems to run good. No road test rained and small fender on front none and back make for a dirty ride. Will take back out this evening. Test light is just a 12 volt bulb I wired to gator clips too.
I was able to get bike running. This evening I was able to ride to town and back 30 miles. Very happy Guy tonight.Ideally, they'd be a similar color (maybe the lighting). Realize it takes a few highway miles to burn-off the soot from choke & warm-up. Look OK
How'd it run?
15 mile trip to town and sat for an hour and 15 back.I was able to get bike running. This evening I was able to ride to town and back 30 miles. Very happy Guy tonight.
The bike was charging. But I still installed my 12volt 5ah battery. I found a small one mentioned earlier the size of a cig pack. But the price is a bit high.Congratulations! Your persistence and hard work paid-off; makes the success that much sweeter....
Apparently you fixed the charging issue (way back) too?
I do have a timing and I sure will do that.Agree with JP and Gary above... but I'd really like to see you put a timing light on it before any serious highway miles/speeds. These engines been known to hole pistons if the ignition is too advanced.
Is the static timing not a good way to go?I do have a timing and I sure will do that.
Not on the top needle slot. I have 2 open slots below where my needle sits. I moved it down before I found the leaking head gasket. If you're still on the top needle slot and if it's a little flat mid-throttle or hesitates a bit, you could go to the second slot
Static timing is what you do just to get the engine running. Dynamic timing (strobe light) is what you do to get it running right. Static only gets you close... close enough to run. From the sound of it, you got pretty damn close.... maybe dead on even, but until you put a light on it, you'll never know for sure.Is the static timing not a good way to go?
