I think DOM is the way to go because it's a major player for frame stiffness.
I hope this doesn't turn in to an issue for you because of the OEM tolerances, if it does, I'm sure the good folks here will help to come up with a solution.

I am not sure about tolerances, but scrap DOM or "ends"are fairly cheap......
