Well, I've been here for 6wks. or so sponging up all this wealth of knowledge, I guess it's time to make myself known. I've been a Motorhead all my life, starting with minibikes and gocarts in the late sixties. I left a trail of cannibalized lawn equipment to prove it! Always had cycles of one form or another. Now at 53 I've managed to collect about 20 or so. It's always been jap bikes for me, though I have owned a few oddballs (ossa,carabella, bultaco,,etc).I had a 76 xs 30 yrs. ago, and was always impressed with the overall "feel" of it. After exploring the Hondas and Kawis, I'm back to the mighty twin. I have admit, I'm mostly a purist and strive to preserve originals. I have seen a few mods I could live with, mostly flat track style. Not to offend anyone, but a good majority of these babies get butchered.I have a 77 standard and a 78 special, I'll get some pix up soon and a list of all my other treasures. Thanx for having me, cuz I'm sure glad I found ya!!

xsvjm1;

Welcome to the site. 77 Standard and 78 Special..................obviously you are a connoisseur of fine motorcyles:thumbsup: Those are both top years for these bikes,especially the 78 Special:D.

We need pictures...................when replying,look below and see the "Additional Options" and then the "Manage Attachments". Click on Manage Attachments and then select pictures from your computer and then upload them.

Here's a couple quick pix (excuse the mess).Both are local craigslist finds. The 77 cost me all of $400 and was brought to life within 30 min. of reaching its new home. It took me considerably longer to free it from its 25 yr. hiding place in the back of the PO's mother-in law's garage! The special cost me $900 delivered and was another 25 yr. shed-dweller. Don't get me wrong, these things are very few and far between. Only daily diligence and a quick wallet will get you there!

Hi xsvjm1 and welcome,
what mess? I can clearly see the garage floor in each one of your photos.
And Oh yes, leave them alone, they are perfect as is.
Except for the Special's rototiller bars, everyone hates those (Except Marty, but he's really tall)
And I don't have to tell you that 25 year old tires are rubbish, eh?

Not to worry Fred, all brand new dunlops waiting on the shelf. As for the"rototillers", I've yet to experience the thrill of them, so ill wait out the remaining 2+ months of northeast winter!
