I thought this was happening because of the bad gasket I had in the bowl changed the gasket still leaking around the edge of the bowl , could this be my float height is too high ? I have them set around 24-25mm measuring with the gasket in ,should I be measuring on top of the gasket or without the gasket when checking the float height ?

With out the gasket. If you read your repair manual or the carb guide it tells you this.

I like how everyone on here always says "refer to the manual"... what's the point of this message board again ?

And we are men...we don't need no stinking instructions! And if I found a manual for every machine I worked on, I'd go broke buying manuals. Seriously, I replace my float needles with rubber tip needles and use the clear tube method for float level. Problem gone.

thanks guys , I have been measuring my float level with the gasket in which would make it about 26mm , gonna change the height without gasket today

It's pretty much a given that if you're working on an old bike or anything else for that matter you're gonna get a manual for it, that's why you'll hear that. And if its in the manual there's no need to post unless you need clarification or more info. If that's the case everyone here is more than willing to help. That's the point of this message board.

thanks for the clarification. I was under the assumption this was to get direct answers rather than sifting through pages you must be retired and have all the time in the world

If you plan on owning and riding an old bike with any success, you need to put forth a little effort and learn some things about it. A few extra minutes spent referencing a manual before you dive in is part of this process. If you can't be bothered, take it to a shop and pay to have it fixed.

You haven't provided the year of your carb set. Float level settings differ between years sometimes. Without knowing that info, no one can tell you if your setting is correct. Some years used 24mm, some 25mm, and some 22mm. Guess you'll need to try all 3 and see what works. Boy, for someone with little time on their hands, you sure are wasting it, lol.

There are so many questions asked on here everyday that can be found by reading the manual. Sometimes the same question multiple times a day.
Why should we rewrite the manual to answer these questions?
As far as it taking time to read the manual, how much time do you waste watching tv or surfing the net for porn? Use some of that time to read the manual. Once you have read it all once it will be easier to find the info you need.

Leo how do I set my ignition? The manual is across the room this seems easier.........

PS fuel leaking out of the float bowl is "seldom, rarely" a bad gasket.
Gotta get back to the big jugs site now.

To you boys that have it all "knowed up"
Why are you here? There are other sites that have less "noobie" traffic.
Stay on those and you won't be bothered.
If you haven't found those sites I would be glad to give you the links.
AND if you tire of questions DO NOT volunteer to live the last years of a loved ones life with them. Because you will get/hear the same things over and over on a daily basis.
Instead of being a comfort you will become an agitation (definition 1 of the noun).

Unfortunately not everyone has the same amount mechanical sense.
But in their arena (definition 1 of the noun usage) you may pale in comparison.
So get off your high horse. Nobody makes you hit the reply button.
No one is holding a gun to your head.

In the time I have spent on the various boards I have found ONE, (1, uno, single) true teacher.
And a couple of good mentors.

The rest. One sells parts and bikes. The market is the reason he is here.
Several like to mention(over and over) what THEY own or have done.
And a couple never answer till the chance arrives to stick a barb in someone.

Ya'll want to rant.
Well the are two sides to a coin.

The newbies are free to come on and ask dumb questions, the old SOBs are free to diss them for asking the dumb questions. And if TEEBS were still around he'd poke fun at all of us.
Quid pro Quo (from the latin) It's part of how forums work.
As often as not the correct answer involves hinting that the wrong question was asked.
Oh I love my mama even though her memory loop is getting very short.
peace bro.

PS I reread this thread and every SOB posted useful information, along with some chiding about learning how to use a forum. IE the info's all here you just have to bother to look. Go visit the chooper boober forums, talk about trash talking. IMHO this forum is about the most useful and informative forum in the MC world. We aren't alone in that but can hold our own against any others.

Broke13 - Carbs are the worst for the 'refer to guide response' because the carb guide really is so good. It's almost all there if you take the time to read it over.

From the point of view of someone who considers themselves learning, always take the time to try to find the answer first. 9 times out of 10 you can with 10 min of looking. When you cant then ask.

BUT....On the other hand sometimes you need someone to clarify something, or you feel like you misunderstood something. In this case the OP asked a pretty simple question.
Sure it's in the carb guide, but setting the float height can be kinda confusing the first time you do it. There are a few ways you could mess it up.

To be honest the best solution is to answer the question then refer the OP to the carb guide for future right?

Anyway i forget where i was going with this...:bike:
