Hello, New to the site

Hi guys and gals.

I just purchased my brothers XS650 that has been sitting under cover in his garage for over 20 years. It is completely stock with not even a scratch but has not been started in a long time. I had a matching 650 Special but sold mine in 1982 to pay property taxes. I paid $350 for this and not sure where to start so advice is welcome. I will not put gas and juice to it before going through it. The gas tank was turned off and dry (no rust). Where do i start??

When I got my XS650 from my uncle, it had been sitting (covered) in his back yard, in southern MI, for about 10 years... I cleaned out the tank, filled it with fresh 92 octane, dropped in a hot battery and (after slowly rotating the engine with the kicker) pushed the button, and it fired up after about 5 cranks... it took about 5 minutes to settle into a smooth idle.

I know what I done was probably wrong, but I knew these old machines were notoriously rugged, and I didn't pay a dime for it... so what the hell. lol.
