You've gotten a ton accomplished since october! It looks great. I especially like the pic of the block on the kitchen counter; wives love that stuff, don't they? :wink2:

The best news is that I found this 17K miles engine in very nice condition. Wasnt abused at all, it seems. Even the starter gear is near perfect.

Lower fork tubes needed many hours of attention, but came out quite nice, with a brushed finish. I'm doing this build as a stocker, will do a mod on the next one.

that engine does look clean, the lowers came out really nice!!! I have some spare parts that came off my streetracker that i didnt use if u need anything let me know.

what year is that bike? where did u find it? been wanting to do a stocker myself , leave it raw yet mechanically sound

had a chance a few months back to buy a 79 with a springer front, pretty rough shape, for $375, kick myself in the ass i didnt buy it, but had other builds going on and i woulda probably been sleeping in the garage! engines in the kitchen get old REALLY fast

Hey Fish, I've been offline for awhile, and didnt get notices of your posts.
I found my '76 on Craigs a few years ago. The guy had put the ad up for only 30 minutes, and gotten numerous calls. I sped down to Tully to look, and 2 other guys were there already lookin at it, but I had 500 bucks in my pocket, the amount the guy wanted.

Thers a guy in the Cortand area who has 6 to 8 stockers in various conditions out back his house, stuffed in tight with maybe 50 other bikes, bu they aren't covered well, and slowly rusting, unfortunatly. I could put you in touch with him. Send me an email.

You've got quite a workshop; looks like you could have 4 projects going at once.

Yamadude,
I wonder how many of Mr. Cortland's Xs650s have titles, and if so, what kind of offer would he take for the "whole loaf" of them. Seems to me there could be enough material there to make at least one runner...

Tebo, I think he's good with saving his paperwork, and most of the XS's are all together, in fact he has an early 70's fully restored (but rusting). He just picked up an early 80's Special last fall that ran good, he said. I checked it out. You would have to talk to him about $. He's willing to sell anything, and he had a swap meet at his rural place last year. He's a former bike mechanic. Has tons of parts, some are rare. I'll send you his number in a private message.

You identified the airgun correctly, Peanut. A classic shooter. Wood pieces are handcarved by a guy down in Tennessee.

I collect nice handguns primarily cuz they are well-designed precision instruments/tools. Here are my two Rugers, a stainless steel 22cal on the left, weighted barrel for accuracy, and a GP100 357 magnum.

Anyone else collect handguns?

its a beaut ! a real classic.
I had one myself for a while back in the late 70's I think . I took it back for exchange for some reason ...........ahhh! I remember why . It takes more than one crank to build the pressure up and I wanted something with a single stoke pump :wink2:

I love handguns too. I was an avid collector of 1911 Colts back in the 80's until we lost our Licenses in the UK I had to deactivate my favourites to keep them which was such a shame .
Have an early 1911 Commercial with the diamond chequer wooden grips lanyard looped clip and a British Secret Service Browning Hi Power
One day I'll get around to building a display case

I would love to see a picture of the Browning!

"Lost your licenses" ? I think I read about that.... the government's crackdown on handguns?
