mikes xs 5th gear overdrive machining

I don't know a lot of math but i know what perfectly concentric means. Seems the file or hone on a bearing surface will crate a rounded shape. The gear will wear on the sides very fast,(missing bearing surface) round off to a sharp point quickly and make a metal mess in the inadequate oil filtration system(OEM). This is from getting dirty and doing just that, filing and honing in taller gears.Nothing beats having a friend with a Bridgeport and a lathe. What options does one have for a tall 5th gear. Guru needed.

This is definitely a job for a hone, just not a brake hone. It'd be a ten minute job on a Sunnen hone. The hole will be straight and have an excellent finish.
