My first ever bike build!!

love the exhaust...I can only hope mine looks that good wrapped up, very uniform and professional looking. What's the actual color called on that wrap?

My disassembly is underway hopefully sand blasting and painting soon!!!!! I think you'll easily win this race!!!

Looking good my man!! I'm usually not a fan of exhaust wrap but you make it look good!! If I'm not mistaken that titanium wrap, not?

I'm still a ways out on my xs. Been building a Harley for a customer (mutter mutter)...

that looks amazing .

I think you are going to need some serious security on your bike and shed :(

Damn these pipes looks killer!!
Another fine quality job, keep pluggin away and soon you will be riding.
But I'm not sure we ever get through.
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks Carbon! I can't wait togo plodding about on her like you do!!

Just take your time and it comes out nice and uniform. It's titanium or some call it black and gold.

Hehe I doubt it bud!! Keep plugging away! The light is still far away!!

Thanks Peanut!!

Yeah I'm worried about that! Was thinking of putting it out the front of the house as it is a pain to get it round everytime. Stick an anchor somewhere and chain her up. But we got the local drinking hole 60 paces away, and I'm also worried some pisshead is going to "have a go"!

So my mate came over to check her out. After a bit of fiddeling, we took the side cover off, and he looked at the plates. They don't disengage, they just stay stuck. He took them out and noticed the plates are warped! How did I miss this??! He is almost convinced this is the cause of the problem. Said I need to get new plates and that SHOULD sort out the problem!

He also said once it's running, he will stick it on his dyno at work to tune the carbs properly! I'm so lucky!!:D

So now more steps back,I will have to order new plates. I may as well get the clutch bolt upgrade while I'm at it, maybe even new clutch springs.

These bikes are a lot of work!! But so much fun nonetheless!!:bike:

well thats good news anyway at least you know what the problem is now.

Whilst its off you could file all the tangs on the basket smooth if you didn't do that allready, that will also help the plates disengage
Have you got a micrometer to measure the thickness of all the plates ? from what I remember there are two different sizes of steel plates depending on if you go 6 or 7 clutch plates.

yeah, now for the big wait! also not very cheap either!! I decided to get the upgraded bolts as well while I'm at it! I did measure the plates, and they were to spec, unfortunately I did not notice the steel plates were warped!

Ho hum, got other things I can sort in the mean time..........

There were indeed 2 different steel plate dimensions. Pre Aug 1973 were 1.6mm and post Aug 1973 were 1.4mm but seeing as I don't think you have the very early clutch the thickness of your steel plates should be 1.4mm. I would try and make a plug for one of my Alto 8-pack clutches but you probably have the later spring loaded inner hub which requires modification and they kill you guys across the pond with import duties. Just out of curiosity where did you get your steels from and what was the cost per plate?

I got mine off Heiden tuning. Got the whole clutch kit, but they do sell them at 10Euros a pop.

I do have the spring loaded inner hub. Thanks for the offer bud, but like you say, I could probably almost buy two kits from the Netherlands at the rate they charge for import taxes, nevermind shipping as well! AND handling fees! WTF!:wtf:

Would love one of your hydro kits, but again the price is too much.(not yours, the import and shipping ofcourse!!!)

Going to paint it black too, like the rear. I also painted the rear one with some underbody paint on the inside.

Clutch is on the way! It might be here by the weekend, but I doubt it.

Not a lot left to do!!!

Well the list is getting very short.
It wont be long now.
The fender/MG will do the trick.

Oh dear, just replace it with t, as they do in ventriloquism! My space bar is giving me grief!

I hate waiting for stuff, especially if it is not there over the weekend when I have time to do stuff!

Tiny space is all I have mate! Must do with what I got! Hoopefully the new shed will arrive soon!
