New mini tachometer not working

I got a new mini speedo and tach for my project from partsnmore (which by the way has these for $32 apiece). I got it all hooked up but I'm getting no reading on the tach. I was thinking the problem might be the tach drive on the bike, but unscrewed the cable on that end and put it in my drill and still get no reading. The cable is fine by the way.

Anyone have any ideas? I really want to avoid trying to take this thing apart.

Does the cable fit up into the tach right? Can you get the tach to work by using you drill and a nail to spin the tach input?

If you're sure the cable is seating in the tach and the cable is not broke, why not just return it and get another one?
