I am putting in a new oil filter, the smaller one that goes in the side cover, should I lightly grease the gasket, I lightly greased the oil sump cover gasket but was unsure about this one. Thanks!

Hi dude,
grease is good.
It'll seal just fine if it's installed dry but it's likely that the next time you remove the cover one half of the gasket will stick to the cover and the other half will stick in the recess and you'll spend a wearisome while scraping the halves out of there and wondering why you didn't think to buy a spare gasket.
