I am also fairly new to XS engnes . I do not know if that is a common place to have an oil leak .. However what I have found out about XS engines is not much seems to be very difficult with them .. Just keep undoing things in the direction you want to go till the bit you want comes out .. put in the new one and stick it back together the same .. What you have there looks exactly like one of those jobs .
If you pull the three phillips head screws that housing comes off. The end of the cam might just be a bit cruddy. Polish with 0000 steel wool. Replace housing.
This may fix the leak.
If not then a new seal is needed.
