...I get any tools out again to pop the top...
I made a homemade valve grinder not long ago. If you need your faces cleaned up, let me know. I'll do it for shipping cost:)

Wow, thanks Jim. I remember seeing that lathe set up you rigged up. Very cool, will keep you posted.

Wonder what it would cost to ship a frame? :yikes:

LMAO, but maybe in his new frame painting jig? Hey, at least I'll do the bondo work prior to shipping. :D

Cool !!
The website alert system has been breaking down lately, at least for me, so I just discovered your updated postings.
I'll be following along closely, and since I've got this spare engine sitting in the garage on a stand, I just might tear mine down in unison with your work, kinda like a cooking show............."now, add a pinch of salt and simmer for 15 minutes....."

Things came apart pretty easy I think. Needed a hot air gun to get one piston loose and to pull the piston pins.other than that, no real issues.

I'm just gonna post up a bunch of pics and if any of your expert eyes see something that this apprentice doesn't, I would much appreciate it.

That guide and tensioner look in pretty good shape I think. But if they need to be replaced let me know.

Sorry for all the photos guys, but I'm just trying to illustrate the story so to speak. Hoping you guys might see something here that my untrained eyes don't. I know this is old hat to you fellas but it's all new and fascinating to me.

Good thing I've got lots of paint stripper, got some cleanin' to do.

After things are cleaned up will take and post up some measurements and see where we're at.

Never, ever thought I'd be in this deep but, hey, pretty cool!

Thanks again guys!

No apologies, my friend. Keep those pics coming. And for every 'guru' looking at these pics there's two or ten of us amateurs waiting to hear what they say!

Do I see the end of the front guide starting to come apart? It also looks like the chain has worn quite a groove.

Yes Daniel, the left side in the pic is loose, only a matter of a short time before failure I'm sure. The groove is only about 0.5mm deep but I'm thinking it probably makes sense to just replace it now since we're in here.
Hopefully Mike's guides are better these days. OEM must be made of gold.

Robin we are all looking forward to taking this journey with you! Man those pistons are covered with crud. Hopefully they will clean up and can be reused. We’re rooting for you sir!

Hard to tell from pics, and itt'll need a good cleanin first to see better... but nothing jumps out at me. Looks like she was burnin' a little oil... some scoring on the skirts and cylinders, but doesn't look bad... they should clean up. Though, one of the cylinders did have scoring on the side as well as the skirt area. Only thing to do for that is to hone em and see if they clean up. I suspect they will.

But again, I don't see any show stoppers.

Ya Bob, there's a bit of a build up there for sure. Lol.

From what I've been studying we won't know if they can be reused until we get some measurements. I'm sure they can be cleaned but if they are still good enough to be reused remains yet to be seen I guess. Looks to me like rings are probably shot. Maybe one over rings will do the trick. Gotta get things cleaned and see after some measurements I think.

Thanks Jim. Appreciate your trained eye.

Ya, first step is to clean things up and then get some measurements. Thought I'd post some as is pics for you guys who know this stuff. I'm certainly interested to see how things measure up.

Ya, thanks Jim. I have read a lot of positive feedback for cruizinimage. Unfortunately he won't ship a lot of his stuff to Canada. And you can't spoof him, he will only ship to the linked PayPal address. We'll find a way around that when the time comes.

I concur Robin - it all looks OK to me save the tensioner shoe. I’d take them into a machine shop, have the measurements done and ask them to hone the bores and see what the right next step will be.

PM me and perhaps we can figure something out for the US/Canada shipping issue....

Pete
