I was comparing my old to new crankshaft seals and was wondering why the rib on the newer one is smaller than the OEM one?
I was thinking maybe so you can change it out without splitting the cases?
Just wondering if it would leak. Anyone else come across this?
I've included a pic.

If you look close the new seal lip is tapered a bit from the inside edge. This lets it slip into the cases easier. This is so you can change it without splitting the cases.
Give it a thin coat of 3 Bond on the outside edge. This will serve as a lube to help slide the seal in p-lace as well as help seal the seal to the cases.
