    MaxPete Winter is coming - dammit!

    Dear XS650 friends:

    I have some sad news to convey regarding our good friend RobinC. This afternoon, several of us received the following message from one of Robin's sons who used Robin's PM box to communicate with us:
    ______________________________________________________

    Hello, this is Robin's son.
    I'm not sure where to post this but I figured this would find the right people.
    My dad unfortunately passed away this afternoon from what appears to be a heart attack.
    I know this group meant a lot to him and I wanted to let those of you who knew him well know and I don't know how long he'll be kept logged in here.
    Thanks for being a place where he could find a lot of joy. He spoke of this group all the time.

    _______________________________________________________

    I don't have any further details at this point in time. I can say that several of us got to know Robin very well over the past few years and a couple of us rode with him - even as recently as a couple of weeks ago. I think that I can speak for all of us who came to appreciate his enthusiasm, his endless good humour, his patience and kindness to everyone and his generosity with his knowledge.

    He will be sorely missed.

    I am sure that we can all draw our own lessons from this sad event, but I would be remiss if I didn't point out that there will be two especially poignant entries in this years XS650 calendar.

    This is really a hard one. I keep trying to find the words to express what I’m feeling, but they just won’t come.
    He was my friend and co conspirator, he was unfailingly supportive and one of the most genuinely nice people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. We talked almost daily.
    I miss him already.

    This is sad news. Two fine members now gone in just a few weeks. I'm deeply saddened.

    Robin was in a horrendous car accident as a young man; somehow, the doctors patched him up pretty good.
    This sort of experience might slow down some people and cause them to be cautious in nature. Not Robin.
    He went at life with a fork in both hands and his mouth wide open.
    I will miss him.

    There are people at some point in your life that will become special friends like many here in our online community. And some friends, who at some point in your life, will become just people. Robin,YOU are a true friend. "Pleasant Journey"

    I hate that your family has to go through this but I have so much admiration and respect for your son who took the time to let us know.

    Robin was the guy who would love to go with you to a strange part of town to look at a bike. He held his friends and acquaintances in high regard, and actively supported them, whether it was standing by a pal going through a bad divorce or bandaging up poison ivy blisters. It would have been great to have taken a multi day ride with him.
    My condolences to his family and friends on his untimely passing.

    This hardly seems possible. I remember when 2M recommended, and many bought, the yellow Sperry VOM with the dwell. Robin among them. He enthusiastically declared himself a member of the Yellow Meter Gang. His enthusiasm for life never waned. His generosity was boundless. And our loss, now doubled. RIP Robin.

    I'm just a recent member, but robinc put a "like" on most of my replys, most recently as Friday, and I'm glad I replied to that thread. I also read his profile just this Friday to see where my friend was; London, Ontario. (I was going to send him a message, telling him I've been in his town a couple of times.) He was encouraging me to contribute, just as he does, and will continue to do so.. He is is part of this and part of us. I, also had a heart attack, 11 years ago on my bicycle, racing down a steep hill. I was kicking around the idea of starting a health thread to exchange information and tips on health related issues, and now, am convinced this is an important and pertinent subject with universal relevance to everyone, regardless how old you are. Two members have left us in a short time. I am dedicating it to robinc, that gentle soul...

    That is a very nice gesture Goldenboy - I am certain that Robin would value that thread and contribute to it.

    As I have said before - we are a group that is:
    • predominantly male (I don't think I am aware of more than one or two women on XS650.com);
    • slightly older;
    • perhaps given to some pass-times which our mothers-in-law might regard as...."unwise".
    A little thought given to our health and well-being wouldn't be out of place, IMO.

    OMG. I hadn't seen this and was posting away, wrapped up in my minor efforts. Its was @MaxPete who broke the news to me. The forum has had two bits of terrible news in the past few weeks and it has brought home to me that many people on this forum have real-world lives that are much bigger than their posts here. Rest in Peace Rob. My deepest sympathies to Rob's son and his family.

    I cannot believe this....another member gone. Robin helped me by sending me for free a few simple bolts for the rebuild of my butterfly seals. I will never forget this kind gesture from another Canadian brother. RIP Robin wherever you go you will be a brother to those who surround you. J-C . :cheers:cheers fellas to Robin!
