Yea projects, time and money. When ya got the money there's no time when ya got the time where is the money? It's hard to get all the ducks lined up in a row. Unless of course, you're single, then it is easier to get the ducks marching to a different drummer. CB 400 F? Can't wait to see what you do with that. I've only put a 100 miles on my bike since last summer all short hops. Need to take it out and put a couple of hundred on it in a day. Maybe I'll get the chance soon. The weather has been nice.

Yeah, I haven't gone more than 20 miles in a ride since last fall. But now 1st gear is fixed, and the tuning is going well so I need to go on a longer ride to really let the ECU get tuned.

The 400f should be interesting. I have a vfr400 swingarm and a gilera cx125 fork, but not sure on tank or seat yet. Gotta get the suspension done, then I can get down to details. It os getting a 466 big bore, probably get a mild cam since it needs replacing. It sat outside uncovered without a clutch cover for who knows how many years. Probably 3 quarts of water came out when I pulled the pan.

Did the motor turn over? Bearings, seals, etc all have to be replaced no doubt. Looks like a full rebuild eh?

Wouldn't turn over. 1 cylinder was rusted pretty good. Crank and rods look alright, bearings are not bad. I'm going to plastigauge the crank soon to see if it is good. Unfortunately there are no oversize bearings available, so no crank grinding.

CB400F is a great little jewel of a bike! I had one years ago and had a ball with it......that 6 speed close ratio trans was perfect for the engine's power delivery. One of my favorite former bikes!

Checking in from Portland, picked up an ‘83 Heritage Special earlier this year for $800 with less than 3k miles. Soon found out why, the crank is tweaked, I put a video up when first got the bike. These are some “before” and “as bought” picks. Got the frame stripped down and engine split apart, crank and came are soon to go off to Hugh’s for 277ing. Going to turn back the clock on styling. Flat seat, different tail light. Got a Vape ignition, going to do 750 kit, carbs and 2-1 exhaust. Waiting on bonus funds to start buying parts.

Maybe. I’m going to do a 750 kit so will have to see how it looks when I get pieces all together. I do really like the case halves painted black with the bare case covers tho.
    Cheers!

Sweet, I appreciate the offer. I got a 277 specific ignition, the vape crank mounted pma and gonna send my original out for a spa day at Hughs. With 2700 mi on the clock, everything (but the crank bearings) is in fine shape.

Lovely condition. Good bit of history knowing that cranks could twist even at very low miles. Of course HHB will check your bearings and weld the rephased crank so it will not twist in future.

If you decide to stay as a 650 then when you remove the cylinder barrels just lever then up a bit so you can push the pins out and leave the pistons/rings in place so that the cylinder/pistons remains as one unit. This will mean the rings stay seated and this saves you having to do a slight re-hone and new rings.

Best of luck for your 2020 project.
