hi guys if any of you guys have changed or modded with the starter gear set up ,,,,do you know if i am able too pull off the bendix spring and leaving everything in place ,,replace the old with new of or close the leg together and place it back on .......and maybe move it too the right slightly too get better pressure.... regards oldbiker

You need topull the #3-4 gear out, Work the spring of like you do a ring off a piston. Don't grab by the wishbone and pull straight off. Either replace the spring or squeeze the wish bone together and work it back around the gear.
While you have the #3-4 gear out stretch the return spring out a bit. It's the coil spring.
Now when you put it together you can put it just to the right of the spot on the case it goes stock.
In &6 they redesigned the wishbone spring. Heavier wire, larger bends. It wouldn't fit in the little holder on the case. So they said to put it to the right when installing.
Once you do this it will eliminate most of the starter problems. If it don't you did get the springs tight enough.
