Looks like an XS850. Three cylinders. Bought a standard XS850G new.
I have never seen it only heard about it and asked for a picture
how much would you say its worth? was told it was running a few years ago and has sat since and isnt locked up.

It's an XS850 Midnight Special. I'd offer $500 tops.

It is an 80 or 81 XS850 Midnight Special. Worth a lot to the right buyer, but not one of Yamaha's better efforts. Cursed with transmission problems and hard to find parts for, I would be inclined to let this one slide. Not trying to urinate in your corn flakes, but you asked.
If it was an XS750 standard (it's not) the front end is a reasonable upgrade for an XS650 and the standard tanks are used for "cafe" styled XS650s

It's not worth much. Parts are an issue but can be found. If the infamous 2nd gear fix hasn't been done I'd pass on this bike. I have the '79 XS750 and love the power and shaft drive but it was a runner in 9+ condition with very low mileage when I bought it for $1000.

the frame looks alot like our 1982 xj650. i wonder if the seat would swap?
I'd bet against it.
