What valve setting should I use for my XS2

The more I search, the more answer's I find. I'm running a 76 motor in my 72 bike using the 72 carb's. I read in a post somewhere that you should tune for the year of the carb you use. Would this necessarily be true for the valve's also.

Q. What valve tappet clearance do I use?

A. All Models 1974-84: Inlet: 0.003 inches (0.075mm.) Exhaust: 0.006 inches (0.15mm.)

A. All Models 1970-73: Inlet: 0.006 inches (0.15mm.) Exhaust: 0.012 inches (0.30mm.)
Note: Set valve clearance with cylinder being worked on at top dead center on compression stroke.

Use 0.004" or 0.003" for the intake i.e. a loose 0.003" or a tight 0.004"

Use 0.006" for the exhaust.

No, that's only in regards to parts inside your carbs. Use specs for the '72 engine when tuning anything in the engine.

i always run .004 intake and .006 exhaust on my 74, did it on my 78 too. It's ticky, but i should switch to 20-50 too.

.003 and .006 always worked good for me. Oakb why use 72 specs on a 76 motor?

I used (0.06mm)...(0.15mm) for my 81, per manual specs.
Haven't fired it up yet so not sure if I'll have that great tick, tick, tick.

Whoops! I read it backwards. Fuck the years, tune your carbs to their year, tune your motor to its year.
