    Motorcycles you've owned

The list is in my signature. Here are some pics. This is a picture of my 1st bike. This is a picture of me on my Indian taken in 1973 at the Monson hill climbs. This is the same bike a couple of years ago at Jampot Rallye. This is my Harley panhead chopper. I built it myself...

    I'm new!

Welcome, Salty! I really like the look of that little Honda 350. Be sure to send pics of it to The Horse. (That goes for you other guys, The Horse is a great place to see NON-HARLEY choppers and customs.) The folks here are very, very helpful, and will share their ideas and experiences with you...

    What does VM stand for?

LOL! I think I told ya before, Little Bill, us old time bikers call that type RUBs (pronounced ROOBs). They ARE posers. Fortunately, here in Rhode Island, since the depression hit, there are a lot less of them, and the price of a used Harley has dropped dramatically. I just look at them with...

    Jc whitney parts

I've done business with Whitney for years. They used to carry the Cheng Shin line of tires, so they had an even BETTER selection of old style tires, at extremely good prices. Now they still have some great deals. I just got Avon Speedmaster fronts from them for both my Yamaha and my panhead...

    Hello from Holland, Michigan

Welcome to our group! I don't know how familiar you are with these bikes, or any for that matter, but, I will presume to give you some advice. If this bike sat as long as you said, before you started it, I hope you drained, cleaned well, and checked the gas tanks. They may have rust in them, and...

    Mikuni VM 34mm carbs

As I said, I have already bought them, so I'll have to see how they work now. I have lived with the stock carbs for about 10 years now. I have taken them apart and cleaned them 4 times, twice even after lining my tank and replacing the petcock with a new and filtered one. I have ridden bikes all...

    Mikuni VM 34mm carbs

I am not looking for any power boost. In fact, even if these carbs give me a little less power, but prove more reliable, I will not complain. I am not a "tuner." My bike is a rat. It is my every day, run around, ride to the store and load the saddlebags bike. It is ugly, and I can leave it...

    Mikuni VM 34mm carbs

Thanks for all the input. I have bought the kit and will see how they work. I don't mind re-jetting them. They will be much easier to R&R for jetting than the stock carbs, and they cannot be more of a pain in the neck than my stock carbs have become. Once they come, and I have put them on, I...

    What does VM stand for?

Fact is... more of the new Honda Gold Wing is Made In USA than the new HD. For all kinds of things parts come in from all over the world. Sometimes the same parts can be sourced from factories in 2 differrent countries. I have an HD, a 1952 panhead. I do all my own work on ALL my bikes, my 1950...

    Mikuni VM 34mm carbs

Has anybody tried these carbs I saw on e-Bay? If you have, how are they working for you? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380291264305&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Keihin flatslide PWK carburetor, oppinions, issues?

I have owned several 4 strokes with direct acting slide carbs. My Indian has an old L&L like that. None of the ones I have owned have had push-pull throttles; they all had single cables, but stiff enough return springs so sticking is not a problem.

    Newb in need of help!!!!

The original ignition module, which, from the pictures, you are missing, is usually called the "ignitor module".

    Yay! I have spark again!

For those who have been following my XS650, I lost spark last fall. I had replaced the coil before the snow came, but to no avail. Then the snow came. Well, last week I replaced the ignitor. It sounded like it wanted to start. Friday I was going to go get some etyher to see if I could get her to...

    will only run when choked

The original carbs on the 81's suck. I have had mine apart several times. NEVER let them sit for more than a week without running the gas in the carbs out. Just shut off the gas and run the bike until it stops. Oh, that's right, you have to change the petcock to the replacement kind that does...

Back to work after a rough winter

Well, the winter here in Rhode Island was as bad as I can remember. In many ways it was worse than 1978 when we had the famous blizzard that dumped 3 feet of snow on the level in my yard. At least that year that was the only blizzard. Other than that it was small snow storms. This winter, here...

    My heritage special build

What a beautiful job! It's nice to see someone making a nice chopper from a Yamaha 650. I'll definately keep an eye on this project if you keep posting.

    Have a great Veteran's Day

I don't know how it is now in the service, but years ago, back when I was in the Navy, during the Viet Nam War, combat duty looked good on your service record. If you were a lifer, like I was, you tried to get as much of it as you could because it helped with promotions. We had a saying among us...

    Rear swingarm pivot

For those of you who still use WD40 to loosen rust siezed parts, I have never found it to work well at that job. In the old days I used to use a mixture of Liquid Wrench and Marvel Mystery Oil to do the job. I'd put it on, let it sit for a few minutes, often tapping it with a small wrench or...
