    Weird Clutch Issue

Good afternoon everyone, I'm having a weird clutch issue at the moment. I've since replaced the clutch springs along with new friction plates. The problem I was trying to resolve was a hard to shift, false neutral between what felt like every gear and slipping at high RPMs. Now that I've...

    Hard shifting and slipping

Shifts perfectly fine in 1st, N, and 2nd with the bike off rocking the rear wheel. The shift lever also snaps back like it should.

    Hard shifting and slipping

I’ll end up opening that side again, but I did want to mention when shifting from 1st back to neutral it’ll “shift/click” up to N but won’t actually be in neutral and I’ll have to let off and pull up again; same happens going up to higher gears as well. Did a bit of searching here and there’s a...

    Hard shifting and slipping

Hey Fellas, So I’m kind of at my wits end with my ‘82. I got this bike as a basket case and have since assembled it and replaced a hand full of parts while in the process. Last night I replaced the clutch springs and bolts which solved my slipping issue, but I’m still having my shifting issue...

    Point Covers

That was my plan to try and pick up some stiock ones. Thank you

    Point Covers

Just a quick question about the point covers. I’ve installed a Boyer ignition and my bike never had these covers when I got it so my question is will any old cover that I buy fit? The coils on the stator plate seem to protrude quite a bit so I wanted to make sure I was good before I spend any...

    Wiring Gremlin

Best picture of my rotor I could get at the moment just got into the garage and haven’t taken anything apart. You can faintly see where the brush is riding on the outer ring. Whole front of the rotor has that black coating on it. I’ll get into it and see if I can’t figure out the culprit of...

    Wiring Gremlin

Just to update the thread I went ahead and tested the rings on the rotor, getting 2.5 ohms. So that failed. The reg/rec diodes tested good. I haven’t tested the continuity on the stator harness yet though. I’m still getting the main fuse blowing when the stator harness is plugged in too...

    Wiring Gremlin

Last night I did a little more trouble shooting and the fuse only blows when the stator/rotor is plugged in to the harness. Leading me to believe the reg/rec is still good. I can’t be sure on my engines year, but it’s got the one piece reg/rec with the stock alternator I believe. I’ll check...

    Wiring Gremlin

I’ve dwindled it down to the reg/rec. headlight and tail light or the power box from the BB did not blow the fuse but the connection to the reg/rec blew the fuse. Anyway to test it to confirm?

    Wiring Gremlin

I was just thinking about this option. There’s only a few things on the other side of the switch so it would easy enough to go through one by one and see what blows the fuse. I’ll report back with my findings

    Wiring Gremlin

Okay fellas this is a weird one I finally got my basket case chopper up and running with the Boyer ignition (also a new stator plate from JRC Engineering) and last night I started the process of cleaning up the wiring to button it up. The only things I touched was the ground wires for the...

    First Start with new Boyer

What I meant by that last part is before I installed the Boyer (had a pamco that I let the smoke out of) the bike wouldn’t turn over, wouldn’t cough, wouldn’t do anything but sit and look pretty. Now with the Boyer installed it’ll almost “cough” like you mentioned. But I’ll keep messing around...

    First Start with new Boyer

Good morning everyone, Recently got my Boyer installed and everything went pretty well. Tried starting the bike (kickstart only, starter isn’t hooked up) and the bike was giving me better results than before but still no start. It sounds like it may be 180 out. I haven’t tried anything else...

    Picking up a Boyer ignition

Finally ordering a Boyer this month after saving my pennies for the holidays. I’ve scoured the forums for advice and tips so I would just like to confirm so I have everything I need. Going to be ordering the Boyer, and new plugs. I have a custom barebones wiring job (only headlight and...

    Ignition Options

I think I’m going to bite the bullet and buy the kit. I noticed all the kits online mention a brass cam bushing for 81+, I’m not 100% sure on the year for this motor. Are these bushing easy to see to tell if I need to pick those up or not?

    Ignition Options

good afternoon fellas, I’ve recently let the smoke out of my PAMCO upon assembling my basket case and rather than trying to repair it I’m considering buying a new electronic ignition. My issue is that most of the ignitions available are either out of stock, or cost $300+ for what should be a...

    Getting my bike started

There is a sharp bend at the connector because it’s tucked up underneath, but that’s what I thought. I’ll just remove it then. And thank you! I’ve been lurking for a while, finally decided to put myself out there.

    Getting my bike started

I had both connected, one in the engine and one out and grounded. Unfortunately it might not have been the best ground and I did in fact let the smoke out of my PAMCO. That’ll give me time to work on cleaning the mechanical advance. Another question I had is about a thicker wire at the...

    Getting my bike started

Okay spent some time in the garage this morning messing with the PAMCO. I removed the rotor, removed the locating pin, reinstalled the rotor, removed one spark plug, and spun the rotor. That resulted in a zap (couldn’t see a spark, just a noise) from the circuit board area of the PAMCO, and a...
