    mini/bikini fairing?

I see that Omar's has a little fairing that covers the stock gauges and headlight with openings for the turn signals. Can anyone recommend any others ? What about replacing the glass sealed beam with a plastic lens/halogen to save a bit of weight? Thanks

    Rotor upgrade?

Kev posted a list of 320mm rotors with the same bolt pattern as the xs front hub. I was about to order that XS Performance rotor (298 mm) but am now wondering what sort of performance difference I might expect from a 320 mm vs a 300mm rotor. Is it significant? This is for a stock single disc...

    easy fit caliper?

Kev - getting back to my brake upgrade, if you're still around... This list of rotors - (320mm 6 bolt 80mm circle) do they share the same 65mm inner opening to mate with the XS650 hub?

I appreciate your effort with the photos but apparently the caps won't interchange. Thanks Alan

    aluminum fenders for a '77?

Can anyone help me to source some alloy fenders to fit my mostly stock '77? I'm hoping to lose some weight and get a bit of that Brit bike look. New or used - I can fab mounts if needed. Thanks Alan

    fuel tank lid?

I've read that the fuel fill cap on earlier bikes was aluminum with the Yamaha emblem on it. Will this cap fit the tank on my '77 to replace my chrome one? Will the key mechanism interchange? Does anyone have a photo of the early one, or have an extra cap to sell? Thanks

issues with Mikesxs crankcase vent valve

I had already changed the oil and put in new filters, because the bike had sat covered outdoors for a long time. The oil I took out was clean and I found no water. I thought that after a few rides it might clear up, but that was not the case and after 200 miles over several rides I took the...

issues with Mikesxs crankcase vent valve

I installed the one-way crank vent valve on my '77 with 2 short hoses from the breather outlets to a T fitting, then one hose from there to the valve, hung near the front of the battery box. I had to take the valve out because it leaked a whitish oily fluid, like oil and water mixed. It would...

    2 into 2 headers ?

A local guy has a pair of Supertrapp cans meant for his XR750 dirt tracker that I could fit - I've talked to Michael Morse about about street exhaust systems for the XS650 and he likes the Supertrapp. The way they're built sure doesn't look like they'd perform like a straight open can, as the...

    easy fit caliper?

Great looking job Kev, but I'm limited to a saw and a drill press and was hoping for something nearly bolt-on and possibly more vintage looking. Thanks for the info. Aalan

    easy fit caliper?

I'm thinking of putting the XS Performance rotor on my '77 and am wondering if there's a better, lighter caliper that would fit without too much trouble. Thanks

    2 into 2 headers ?

Got an email from Mike at mikesxs.com - he tells me that he expects to have this style headers (not stainless) available by the end of Feb. But I'd be interrested in some stainless ones if not too pricey.. Alan

    2 into 2 headers ?

I like the look of the later more curved stock headpipes - what years had these? I'm aware of the reproduction early style pipes at mikesxs, but don't like the more angular look. Can anyone direct me to a later style 1 1/2" header copy, or should I be looking for a used set of stock pipes? Thanks

    fitting adjustable fork valves?

I bought a set of adjustable compression damping valves at mikesxs.com - turns out early '77 D model 35mm forks have different (earlier type) damper rods than other '77-84 forks. Can anyone tell me how to fit these valves to the smaller diameter top ends of my dampers? Not included in mikes...
