I just bought a 1979 XS650 and got it home yesterday, I saw it on facebook and fell in love with the style, the simplicity, and knowledge of the power and reliability has me hooked on taking care of this pretty much entirely stock 650 from over 4 decades ago.
One thing I noticed while riding it...
WARNING (per 6/6/2024): the below test setup did not have the precision to estimate the difference in flow correctly (working on a different one)
I wanted to understand the differences in flow for various intake options. So I have setup a simple experiment to compare the stock XS650E airbox to...
In the "Ron Wood BMW" thread there was a comment regarding intake length. I believe I have posted on that subject before, but anyway. So here goes:
On a stock framed XS650, with any linked carbs, like the stock BS 34 and 38, Mikuni RS34, Keihin CR/FCR, and the popular Kawasaki 500 flatslide CV...
I'm currently in the middle of tearing down the top end of my motor(1980 XS650) because it bent a intake valve last fall when the valve spring retainer split in half. My clutch was also slipping last time I was riding it and I had already adjusted both ends of the clutch cable. I'm going to be...
Hey All,
New to the site here, just traded some guy a TW200 i owned for a junkyard modded 1980 xs650 special. Mechanically all there just kinda ugly. Starts on first kick, good compression, rebuilt engine, idles all day. The bike came with all the stock parts, but on the bike currently is a...
Saw a ton of incredible bikes this past weekend at the Brooklyn Invitational, but quite a few less XS than last year. This one was particularly rad though.
Aluminum 2 into 1 intake, single Lectron carb, into custom airbox. Talked to the creator of this beast and he said it runs fantastic...
I've searched this subject, and seen a variety of ideas. Has anyone tried running a hose from the PCV exit holes to the barb on the intake on the carb holders? I hooked it up, and didn't see any issues, although it did raise the idle slightly, cured by turning idle screw. Any ideas whether this...
Don's pieces for early bikes are quality. I have mine on as of today. Now, I'll have no rubber degradation worries.
Unhappily, though, I'm still chasing this high idle when the bike's hot. I have been afraid to touch the valves because the bike runs well at speed and pulls hard through the...
I'm not sure if anybody has tried this, but I'm interested in making an air intake manifold that uses a single air filter located off to the side of the bike. My idea was using some sort of pipe (copper was my initial thought because its lightweight and easy to work with, but I found out it...
Is there an aftermarket intake manifold for the original carbs. Not just some rubber knockoffs of the OEM. Like the TCbros choppers have, but for stock. I'm looking, but not finding.
Thought I'd share this with you, just bought a set of offset manifolds from joe wise guy,on ebay, and luckily they fit my dellortos,so if anybody's thinking of putting phf dellortos on thier xs they will fit 32,34 and 36mm phf as they are all the same size at the manifold.
I did have them mated...
Just had one of my inlet rubbers split, after only a few years use,I went to buy some from mikesxs, only to find a big warning about using them with fuel with ethonol in it, There is a fair bit of weight on them as I run dellortos,so I am now at a loss as what to do,any suggestions
