Just need to throw my probably unwanted opinion in.............Why the hell own a helmet that's not going to offer any protection (legal or otherwise). Yeah, they look cool......So does a beanie.........Offers about as much protection!

Because a lot of states in the US require that you wear a helmet, but not many law enforcement agencies actually check to see that the helmet is DOT approved. This way, you can wear a lighter, cooler looking helmet and not get harassed by the cops. Even though it really does nothing to protect your head.

The part of your head that strikes the pavement first is usually your jaw.

I've been on rides with some wicked crashes... when you see the damage
to a full face helmet jaw area and visor from someone who has slid face
first across the ground... you really think twice about the protecton offered
by anything else.

I have an open face helmet, but I seldom wear it anymore because of this.

It's all personal choice. I don't care what anyone else rides with... they can
do what they like.
