Good going Ron!!! I am sure many will recall the issues I had posting photos here when I joined.
Anyhow - that bike looks to me to be a '79 or '80 XS650 Special and I suspect after a good wash, it won't look so bad. It appears that it might last have been licensed in around 1987...so, 30 years off the road. I can't make out the mileage but these bikes are tough as nails.
After a good wash:
- remove and clean the carbs and fuel tank;
- rebuild the brake master cylinders (front and rear) and likely the calipers too;
- new tires and tubes (these rot and are not safe after a few years);
- possibly new cables (clutch, throttle, speedo and tach (all together less than $80);
- remove and clean or change the oil filters (there are TWO of them) and a load of fresh 20W50 oil;
- almost for sure a new battery;
......and there ya go!!!
Keep in touch, ask questions and tell people what parts you need - and this group will have you up and rumbling in short order.
Cheers,
Pete
