I wrapped my stock exhaust and now am putting them back on the bike, 78 standard. There are crushing type gaskets that are just furiating! It's seem that I need to torque the exhaust nuts way too much just too get the flange even close to the head (like 2mm). They are aligned and I assume I need the gaskets for my bike to run properly. Do I need new gaskets? All tips and advice welcome!:)

I know in the picture that the nuts and washers aren't on but that is literally as far as it will go even with them tight

Also the wrap look like its to far up the exhaust but there is 2 inches of clearance on both.

Hi Matey,
The exhaust pipe retainer grips the gasket at it's inner cylindrical end, there's supposed to be a gap between the finned flange and the head.
Don't panic until you run the thing to see if it's sealed, eh?
