Flasher fault troubleshoot Flowchart

ok I just wanted to be sure so that would suggest that you need a replacement flasher relay .

ok I just wanted to be sure so that would suggest that you need a replacement flasher relay . Is the existing unit 2 or 3 pin ? and have you removed the connector to the flasher cancellation unit and tested the flashers ?

It’s a 3 pin unit, and no I haven’t removed anything else, just tried by plug in the new relay and it didn’t even come on. Which connector should I remove, any picture how it looks?

you need to follow every stage of the flowchart , it won't be much help to you if you skip bits.
I believe the cancellation relay is under the tank near the flasher unit but I am not familiar with your model. It auto cancels the flasher but the flashers work fine without it connected.

So I unplugged the flasher canceling unit and nothing, looks like it’s the relay that it’s not compatible, they lights don’t light at all with the new flasher and they stay solid with the old one which means the wiring is ok, but is flasher fault. Will try different relays and will update.

sounds like a good plan . the only other reason I can think of for a solid flasher is a wrong voltage bulb. I was supplied with a 24v bulb once and that took hours to find ......

Battery power will stop it in its tracks (low voltage) too

I don't think are the lights, they are LED 12V 1W.

There is a real issue with folk switching to LED bulbs and altering the load on the relay. Previously, owners were advised to fit an additional resistive load to compensate Apparently the answer now is to fit an electronic relay which is not load dependant.

It would be very useful to have all this information in one short concise locked thread perhaps as a sticky ? there doesn't appear to be one for flashers at present.

Switching to LED's and adding resistive load in order to keep the OEM flasher never made a lick of sense to me - that doesn't take any load off an electrical system that was marginal at best when brand new.

If you read the flowchart properly you'll see that it refers to the original flashers with incandescent bulbs NOT LED
you are wasting your time trying to get a non LED relay to work with LED flashers .

You need a LED specific flasher relay

Yeah I know that’s why I bought a electronic flasher relay and it still didn’t work so I’m trying a different type of relay for LED

Most three prong after market flashers are not set up to function on our bikes.
A two prong flasher is what you need.
On the harness where the stock flasher plugs in there are three wires coming to that socket. A brown wire, a brown/white and a third. This third wire goes to the self canceler and won't be used.
On your new two prong flasher plug it in where the brown and brown white wires are.

Thank you, I’m waiting on the other flasher to come and try.

Connected and works fine, used the relay in photo, red connected to brown, green to brown/white and black to ground, disconnected the canceling unit. Blinkers work and flash bright
