I am just rebuilding my XS650 bottom end and have come across a potential problem.
I have re-fitted the roller assembly that holds the gear selector drum in place and the drum rotates freely but when I tighten down on the bolt that passes through the roller assembly plate it gets much harder, almost impossible, to rotate the drum.
There is a shoulder on the bolt to allow the plate to move but for some reason it isn't helping.
There are no burrs on the plate so I am not sure if I am missing something.
Can anyone advise?

Mine is exactly the same. It is free to move until I tighten the bolt.
I suppose I could use thread lock on the bolt then tighten up until just before it goes tight.

No that's no good, you need to find out what the issue really is.....
You knew this, and just needed someone else to say it out loud.

Using magnifying glass and reading glasses, the eyes are getting pretty old, it looks like the last person to tighten it had arms like Popeye on spinach as there is some damage around the threaded hole. I am guessing the collar is going in a little causing the arm to rub on the body of the casing.

Yes, gggG, you were right. No short cuts on this one, it is XS number 5 and is going to be the best yet!
