Hey all,

New guy, been lurking a bit. Bought a lump this weekend and will be deciding what to do with it over the next couple weeks.

Leaning towards a brat type frame hack, but might endeavor to go single shock.

Been riding dirt since I was 6, street from 17. Built a couple of 4x4 mudders and a hand full of rail buggies and other off road nonsense, so this will be a different turn for me.

I'll be checking in for advice soon I'm sure. I haven't touched one of these XS bikes since I was 10.

Ok, so while waiting for the Monster craftsman brat kit to arrive...

I decided I'd take a few bolts off the engine to look at the starter gear and the PMA conversion...

Looks like I n=ed a new spring, seal and gear.

Everything looks pretty spotless inside...

After finding some pretty scary sins from the PO...

Notice the output shaft nut... besides being backwards it's only finger tight at best.
The carbs looked better though...

So, does anybody in the Austin, TX area have the tool to pull the old armature from the crank for my PMA conversion? I pay beer!

I'll give Dogbunny a shout to see if he has one I can borrow.

At least the motor looks pretty sanitary inside... seems the PO didn't get inside. I think I'll check a few more things the give it a whirl after the PMA and starter are fixed up.

Hi John B,
if the stock rotor tests out OK and you hope to sell it, the proper threaded puller is the ONLY tool that'll remove it undamaged. MikesXS, ~$10.
If it's destined for the scrap pile, any good 3-jaw puller will work to get it off.
