Hello,
83 Heritage Special, stock
Kind of out of no where I have lost electrical features like starter, lights, etc. I read a lot of the threads but I have a question: will it make it 12 miles home? Probably way easier to have someone get me from work and leave it here if it's questionable. It's running ok if I kick start it. Opinions?
Thank you!
John

Charging rotor is shorted and the battery is dead! Remove the brushes, charge the battery and drive it home with the lights unplugged. That's just a WAG, but as WAGs go, it's a good one. Verification is measure the resistance between the slip rings. If it's zero ohms, my guess is correct.

Can always do a quick check on fuses and so
The decision depends on how long ago it stopped charging and what type of traffic situation
I have driven about twice that distance without charging must be soft on the throttle otherwise it stalls
And obviously no lights
If it does it most of the times is possible to start if after a while again ..dont know why but it is just so

There is of course the risk it is something else shorting

I would try to drive it home call a Buddy telling him to standby and rescue oneself
Should it stall closer to home .He dont have drive that far.

Otherwise you still have the same problem the next day And towing is not cheap
