Picture request

When you use the kickstarter, there is a point where the kickstarter disengages and is no longer turning the engine even though you are still rotating the kickstart lever. I am trying to get a picture of where exactly that point is.

I think it disengages when it returns, but don't quote me on it!

What seems to be the problem with yours?

Yes and no. It is disengaged when it returns, but in order for the kickstarter to work and not break your leg when the cylinder fires, it must disengage. That is why when you kickstart, you can have the engine running while still standing on the kickstart lever with it fully down.

The reason I am asking is to see if I screwed up my footpeg mounts and made them where the kickstart cannot disengage. Im wondering if that is one of the contributing reasons to the ridiculous kickback I was getting.

Its not in a running state and it doesn't seem to disengage if I do it on the stand. I know its kicking because I need to adjust the valves and check the cam chain. I just want to make sure its not anything else.

Hey, FrkyMnky. The kickstart gear rides on a spiral-spline, and moves inboard to engage first gear when the kickstart shaft is rotated. It disengages when the shaft reverses direction, or the engine starts (which rotates the gear back up the spiral-spline). So, it doesn't have an overtravel disengagement point like on some other bikes.

Ahh, thanks. That makes sense as to why I couldn't find it without starting the engine.
