vin-decoding

MrBultaco, 553 XS 75B is the Euro version. it has different con-rods and pistons compared to the US, Oceania, Canada and some other countries 447 XS 75B.

I have also had confirmation from several US owners of the 79 SII that it Has 2FO as a prefix and not the 4F0 as per the charts.

here is an updated PDF with Confirmed vin no's

So the Model XS-B / year 74-75 / Code 447 (Highlighted in Yellow)

That should be 447-012150 - 128650, right?

Your Vin no should be between 447-100101 and 447-28650. Between July 74-Aug 75 is the production dates for an XS650 75B

What about this: 650-200309?? Its like there is missing a S in the front to make it a 73, but the frame is a special with the passenger footpegs and seat hinge.. I only have the frame, but clearly somethings wrong right?

That's a good mystery. Maybe you could measure and post up the length of the head tube...

Lasper01, The frame with the neck pointing towards you is a Standard frame and the one with the back pointing towards you is a Special, 80-83. As 2many says measure the neck length and if it is the same length as the Standard frame neck, Standards and Specials are the same length, then its a good bet the numbers have been ground off and re-stamped. If the neck is shorter then its a good bet the neck has been welded onto a special frame.

Edit. Rereading your post you say the seat is hinged. The Special fame in the pic has a clip on seat and is an 80-83, Judging by the seat latch, the grab rail and the rear tab for the Blinkers/indicators/signals.

If that no is on the frame with the neck facing forward, it is on a Standard fame, 74-79, and those forks look to be 34mm. A tell if it is an early Frame, 70-73, is the front down tubes are bent and those in the pic arn't and that rear foot-peg is defiantly a Standard
