Not so bad, haven't seen the other side though.

It's a bit overstyled but nice lines anyways.

Well, ya gotta admit the builder knocked a lot of the ugly off the rest of the bike.

The Indian mill is a show-piece of course.

When I park at a bike rally, mine may be ugly to you, but every wrench in the place will come by to discuss how and why I did each little thing.

Put up a picture to help us understand what you mean.

I don't think the xs looks very good in the various variations people try to weld it into, and it doesn't help if it's someone's first project. The main problem is it's too small and the best you're going to get is cuteness. I've seen the same things done to old Triumphs with good success and I think I have to attribute it to the attractiveness of the motor. The motor looks interesting enough to sit there in a world of space by itself, when the xs motor doesn't. But the xs motor looks fine in the stock bike.

You know the xs is second or third choice of most of those doing the modifications, and when it is you can't hide that. It may show up as trashing the bike ala Fong Bros, to further save money, or as just running out of money pursuing what might have been a decent idea.

Have to agree with you on the Triumph engines. Sexy as hell

Oops BSA. Love the look of the little a50 and a65. Beautiful engines.

I'm thinking those "triumph" motors were made by BSA.......
And they just HAVE to have the finned exhaust nuts to be "right"
And once you say BSA you have to add Gold Star.

Yeah, Wankel stuff. Long ago I came across a junkyard with a dozen-and-a-half Mazda RX2 wankels, ready to go. Did some measurements, and figured I could shoehorn one into a harley frame. That would have been 140 hp worth of ugly...

I had an RX7 that I really liked. It got 18mpg highway. You could get about that same mileage and twice the power by dropping a 302 Ford in it.

If I was Jay Leno and had all the odd bikes in the world I guess an RE5 would be one of them, but as something I would actually ride? Well, not so much. They really didn't do anything particularly well and very few folks would put them on their "bet dressed" list.

I'm fortunate enough to own several bikes, I have everything from a 13 street glide to a Bourget chopper a 75 sportster and many in between but I have a love for the older bikes, no matter where they were made, I had always hated the Virago's until I just saw the black one a couple pages back, WOW! That's cool! I may just have to add one of those to the stable. Here's a pic of my sportster, it's the first bike I built my way, some people like it, most hate it, I love it, it's raw and nasty, never needs to be washed, it feels like a machine, always needs tinkering but that's half the fun!
