A thread about threads. . . .pants I mean.

By the way, I see you're from Dahlonega, Georgia. I have had occasion to portray one of your more famous residents for our local historical society. See if you can guess who it is.

M.F. Stephenson, assayer of the Dahlonega mint. ............or maybe W.B. Townsend, the famous editor of The Nugget?

A pair of the womens "Bella" style was purchased. A few thoughts on fit and comfort. The stitching for the liner was noticeable but not uncomfortable.
The pants have a stretchy material so unlike regular denim they didn't keep "growing" after the second day important if you tend to wear them 3-4 days at a time.
They offered some warmth and more wind resistance(vs. reg denim) at the top of Pikes Pike and in the shady parts of various passes later in the day.
Coming across southern CO, KS in the heat they were not any hotter than denim.
If you decide to purchase READ the reviews. For this particular style buying one to two sizes smaller is advised. Two sizes down turned out to be just the right fit for her.
All in all we will be buying another pair for her and probably some for me also. Normally I wear leather britches but the heat/humidity in KS was tough with them.
Something cooler would be a plus.

My knees are still plenty sore and the scabs a miserable. This after a week. It could have been avoided by wearing knee armor under the Sliders. The bruises on my hips are still aggravating me, too. Still, the road would have done me much worse without them.

Are you using reenforce denium britches?
What do you think of them?
I doubt I'm going to spend $2-300 dollars for a pair but I'd like to know the options.
I was put off by the cost of the original Kevlar jeans, but last year there was a flood of cheaper ones appeared on the market, so I bought a pair to try them, and give me a little bit of reassurance. Better some kevlar in the right places than none at all, I reckon. However, I'm still planning on upgrading to a better pair, this year or next.
I'm quite happy with the quality of these ones, and will probably buy another pair for scuffing around in, while keeping a better set for longer trips.

I've tested jeans at 30! Not nice, lots of rr on thigh and, cos that hurt I rolled onto my back and ground some of my muffin off!

Never wore jeans again but these day gear is so much better than it was back then.

I wear leather if it's dry. (I'm in Scotland and it may start dry but it doesn't finish that way.)

If it's wet my waterproofs have armour but when I'm ringing in Spain I wear a lightweight Waterproof with armour and Kevlar jeans which let the air through and helps keep the jewels cool. Haven't tested them. Don't intend to try either.

I am wearing a pair of tour master pants much more regularly now. Not 100%, that trip to the auto parts store or lunch with the wife downtown still has me in jeans. but for "most" rides, the pants go on. Last fall stop and go in a Georgia construction zone, sun and 90's was brutal hot, I may have left puddles like a car AC! Those pants have full length zippers with dual talons so they can be vented while keeping protection at knee and hips.

Hi folks: I've just read this whole thread and I have a couple of comments/questions:
- SLIDERS - what are they and where would one get them?
- I have ass-less leather chaps, Joe Rocket fabric pants and a First Gear riding suit - those usually do me fine but they sure get hot (although not today).

Cheers,

Pete

Pete....All chaps are ass-less otherwise aren't they just leather pants :umm:

Yup - I guess you're right!

Since my last post, I have taken my medication and found Slider pants on-line. They do seem like a pretty good balance between comfort and protection (I'm an engineer so "fashion" isn't really part of the equation for me - nor does anyone around expect much on that front...). One this is for sure, a lot of riding gear is pretty danged uncomfortable - particularly on hot days.

Thanks!

Pete

I own a pair of sliders pants. But unfortunately don't wear them much. They don't fit me well and are quite hot (for me ) for riding in the heat of Phoenix.
I do wear a full coverage helmet, gloves with much armor, vented jacket and good armored boots. I have been looking into mesh over pants , I could live with that.

After reading Marty's thread on his crash and this one, I spent some cash on Kevlar cargo pants to get away from jeans. It's bloody hot here but I'd rather sweat a little than having road rash. So the full complement now is a good jacket with armored protection, gloves with knuckle protection, Kevlar pants, leather boots.
The next purchase will be a Bell full face crash hat, hard to find though so I am still using my 1/2 face, all this clobber will probably save my ass if I drop the bike.....like I said, it's hot, bloody hot, but I think of Marty's thread and some of the bike crashes I've seen. One crash I saw when I was a young kid and this was before helmet laws were introduced, was a poor guy & girl hit a concrete power pole in the wet, her head hit the pole, what a mess, he survived, her life was extinguished upon impact.
So gear up guys and gals, think safe and be safe....

I have a pair of Slider's jeans and cargo pants. My thinking is better to be prepared than wishing I was afterward. I also wear a full face modular helmet and a mesh armored jacket year round. I'm not 25 and fearless any more. 60 and cautious. I do not want to test them either!

Sliders come from Competition Accessories in SC. I think it's compacc.com

I recently bought some jeans that I like a lot. Made in GA. They are Diamond Gusset Defender motorcycle jeans. The same size as my Levis is perfect, but way better than Levis. Love 'em! gusset.com https://www.gusset.com/defender/

Halloween 2015 I was rear ended while riding the 98' Honda Magna. I was slowing to make a right turn off a highway onto a city street and got punted by another biker in our group. I was wearing an armored Castle jacket, Castle gloves, HJC modular helmet, Gasolina Classic boots and Lands End jeans. Everything worked as expected except for the jeans which exploded on impact and cost me more skin and meat than I could afford. I eventually healed up but promised myself I would never trust jeans to protect me again.

So last spring I went to Duluth and visited the folks at Aerostitch. They measured me up and sold me a pair of their AD1 rider's pants customized to fit my small, not easily fitted body. The pants arrived about three weeks later. The first time I suited up in them it seemed like a lot of bother for a short ride but with practice I can now get into them quite quickly. They are well made in the extreme with protection built in at knees, hips, thighs and lower back. They also shed water like a duck, have numerous covered pockets and high visibility markings in key spots. They are a welcome comfort at 50 degrees and tolerable at 85 degrees.

It probably takes me an extra five minutes to suit up for a ride now but I am much more comfortable mentally knowing that I've done what I can to protect myself. At around $300 they are not cheap but neither is a visit to the emergency room.

Its $300 just to walk in a er. I always wear some kind if boot....ropers, or steeltoes. I always wore chaps over jeans, but since ive gotten older, and slowed down, just jeans, textile jacket, boots, full face. I would like to try dragon skins though.
