    TX 650 Seat Latch

Ok, here is a long shot, but if anyone could take five min and unbolt their TX650 seat latch and trace or snap a photo next to a ruler, I would appreciate it! Mine wiggled loose and fell off somewhere down a bumpy road. I can fab a new one, but need the measurements. PN: 256-24754-00-00 Seat...

    Gasket paper

anyone here have luck using gasket paper instead of buying precut gaskets? you trace your old gasket and cut it with an xacto knife (or scissors for the very low tech) for example : http://crustyquinns.com/tech/myogasket.html That said, do we know what the stock gasket thicknesses are on...

chopper frame failures, what do you see most?

Was wondering, some of you all who have lots of experience with choppers and/or hardtailed bobbers (whether XS or another kind): have you seen a frame actually break? what was the weak spot? Just wondering what kind of stuff, or what points would be most vulnerable. I mean I know it would...

New guy, new (to me) bike, and the future.

Heres what $400 buys ya if youre lucky. PROS: Only 21k on the clock. Straight title. Really clean. Starts on first kick. Little rough in the shifting department, but Im pretty sure I know whats wrong there. Pulls hard, and idles perfectly. Almost ZERO rust anywhere. CONS: Had to buy a...

    Cracked engine block

Hello everyone, I just noticed this earlier today when getting home from work. I am almost positive that little crack under the cylinder wasn't there before( i put the black dots because i had to ride my bike approx. 20 miles home after i noticed it and wanted to see if the crack grew at all)...

    Bobbers and turn signals

At the risk of not being cool (being sarcastic) I want to add turn signals to my bobber, at least on the rear. Just wanted to see who else has them, post up some pics if you do, and how did you go about mounting them...I want to do something that can be removed if I decide to and not have to...

    Broken gas cap hinge (1975)

My new tank just showed up with the gas cap hinge busted off. Not sure about other years but with the 75's it's welded right onto the tank. Is it worth trying to restore? If so please share any tips, tricks, horror stories, etc.

    Shifter very sticky

I rebuilt a 77 XSD a couple years back and have loved tooling around town on it. I have TC bros forward controls and some home made linkage. From day one the shifter has always been very hard to shift, Im talking probably 10-15 pounds of pressure to go up or down. Ive got a manual but havent...

    Cafe Seat mounting questions.

I've got a 78 XS650 special that came with a hideous, 8 inch deep, side-latching seat that kills the look I'm going for on the bike. I posted a thread a few days back and got some excellent help identifying a seat I'd taken a liking to - having now found the source and decided on a seat model, I...

    Neck plate alternative

Finishing up the last part on my bike before it goes to the welders for final welding. My neck plate. I raked it 7 degrees. Top tube has been slugged 1 inch either way of the cut so I feel that will be safe but the lower legs were notched and welded but could not be slugged. Not gonna run...

Designing my rear sets: what's the ideal position?

I'm designing my rear sets, hoping to finalize by the weekend and start machining them. The first design I'm working on will be as cheap as possible, reusing as many stock components as possible (pegs, for example) and keeping the machining simple. Right now my bike is in pieces and I'm not...

Remote Oil filter, will it cool oil temps?

Would putting a remote filter say, like this bike, at the rear help in cooling the oil? Or should an actual oil cooler be installed? Wondering what input you guys have?

Need Side Racks that will hold Pelican Cases.

Hey guys, Planning a pretty big trip on my 78' Special, I've gotten a lot of great advice from the forum about how to prepare myself and the bike for the journey. The biggest thing that is stressing me out right now is how to mount my luggage. I'm pretty committed to using 1520 Pelican cases...
