British XS650'ers

^I will read that. 30 years ago myself, I saw a program on Sunday afternoon TV about how people project their personal incompetence with firearms on the rest of the world and formulate their opinions accordingly.

Hate to say it but for an outsider you guys are crazy about guns, its a national religion.

Why do you need military grade assault rifles? Except if you wanted to go into a school and mow a load of children down??

And it's nonsense to quote the 2nd amendment or defence, as that was written when you only had muskets!

Why do you need an xs650? You don't. To the people who have them it's a hobby.

Yes but XS650s don't go around mowing children down in schools (and it will be my main form of transport not a hobby), why don't I equip myself with a rocket launcher, a minigun and other military grade hardware as well because its my "hobby"..

God invented war so Americans could learn about Geography (Mark Twain)

I like this!

Why do 3rd world countries need nu-clear weapons?
Why do women need makeup and hi-heels?
Why do people need alcohol?
Why do hippies need pharmaceuticals?
Why do drivers need hands-free bluetooth?
Why do some people believe that inner happiness comes from the actions of others?
Why do brits drink tea?
Why do I need tobacco?

From what I'm seeing in the educational system, you may soon hear these questions:

Why are you burning petroleum? It destroys the atmosphere and is killing us.
Why do you use electricity? It destroys the atmosphere and is killing us.
Why do you eat junk food? It promotes health problems that we must pay for.
Why do you vote for conservatives? They rob us, ruin the environment, and are killing us.
Why do you believe in religion? It creates wars and that is killing us.
Why do you drive motorized vehicles? They have the highest murder rate outside of wars.
Why do you buy 'chinese'? It promotes their industrialization, destroys the atmosphere, and is killing us.
Why don't you pass more laws that censor opinion? Opinionated people are killing us...

Why do 3rd world countries need nu-clear weapons? They don't?
Why do women need makeup and hi-heels? To look sexier and more attractive?
Why do people need alcohol? To relax and enjoy oneself?
Why do hippies need pharmaceuticals? Because they want psychedelic experiences and free love and only affect themselves?
Why do drivers need hands-free bluetooth? To not cause car crashes and kill other people?
Why do some people believe that inner happiness comes from the actions of others? Because they are misguided?
Why do brits drink tea? Because it tastes damn good?
Why do I need tobacco? Because you enjoy it and it only harms yourself?

Why do American civilians need military grade weapons? To mow children down in schools?

Why are you burning petroleum? It destroys the atmosphere and is killing us. No actual evidence that it causes global warming and is killing us, 1 volcano eruption releases the same amount of gases as we produce in 5 years.
Why do you use electricity? It destroys the atmosphere and is killing us. No it doesn't, if so lets switch to Hydroelectric and solar.
Why do you eat junk food? It promotes health problems that we must pay for. I don't eat junk food and if I do only I pay for it, not other people or children
Why do you vote for conservatives? They rob us, ruin the environment, and are killing us. I don't vote conservative and what you have said is conjecture :).
Why do you believe in religion? It creates wars and that is killing us. I agree and I don't believe belligerent religions such as Islam should exist.
Why do you drive motorized vehicles? They have the highest murder rate outside of wars. Erm a car crash is not a murder, its manslaughter, murder is planned. Car crashes are an accident, mowing down kids in schools is not
Why do you buy 'chinese'? It promotes their industrialization, destroys the atmosphere, and is killing us. I try not to, thats governments problem to deal with, there is little I can do
Why don't you pass more laws that censor opinion? Opinionated people are killing us...

So because somethings in the world are wrong, lets arm everyone with military grade weapons so they can walk into schools and mow children down and make an ever better world..

But of course, it's easier than using cars, but statistically they're waaay behind in the scoring department...

Yes but accidents happen, they happen on the street, building sites etc. etc.

Going into a school with a military grade assault rifle is a deliberate action, no accident.

What anyone needs a military grade assault rifle for is beyond me, its insanity.

I'm curious, what is a 'military grade weapon'?

AR-15?

( No personal beef btw :) )

An interesting discourse. Repetitive use of the phrases 'military grade' and 'mowing children down'.
A form of OCD, where the phrase or expression induces specific emotions in the speaker, and the speaker repeats the phrases in an attempt to recapture the experience of that emotion, a form of addiction.

If you look at the 'action' words in that statement, 'Going', 'with', 'deliberate action', and observe that the OWNER of the 'action' is conveniently omitted, you'll find an interesting mental fog attempting to redirect blame.

Yes, it's insanity. There is some form of induced fear/need/panic combined with 'hoarding' that is driving this. There are some fascinating modern methods being utilized by the airwaves. 'Subliminal' messaging is illegal, but is ongoing.

These 'messages' are processed differently by various folks. I developed a form of 'gun fear' 25 years ago, and with the help of training, education and specialists, we found a buried 'commandment', insidiously created by repeated exposure to a highly sophisticated television programming technique.

Ask yourself, why do I feel so passionately about this, and why the obsessive repetition? What is it, inside me, that feeds on the resulting emotion?

Guns are heavily taxed over here, what better way to increase revenue? How about cut the alcohol content of beer to increase consumption?

AR-15?

Of course, this is fun.

Sorry, no, AR-15 is not used by the military. Try again...

Wells that's total bollocks, it's called the M-16 in the army and is used to do this day by Armed forces worldwide.

So rather than debate the issue you'd rather try a personal slight ad hominem?

I merely alluded that American gun culture is insane, it is you who reacted emotionally/passionately with 2-3 medium size posts, please check your emotional status before pointing the finger at others.

Not wishing to enter further into a protracted discussion and as you brought ad hominems into it , I'll leave this discussion here...

No, the AR-15 is called an AR-15, of the Armalite corporation, a civilian semi-automatic, not military qualified. It's chambered for civilian Remington .223 ammunition.

The M-16 is a fully-automatic selective fire military weapon manufactured by Colt. It's chambered for NATO 5.56 ammunition.

Can't have an automatic here without a class 3 weapons license (difficult to get, expensive).

I'll leave this discussion here...

Uh,,,, okay.

No, AR-15 originally and still a 5.56 mm, used originally by the Armed Forces as the M16 and then modified and sold as the AR-15 to the public in 5.56 mm and .223 forms.

We can drop the semantics it's a military grade weapon.

And as you used ad hominems for your main argument, I'll say no more...

Well, they have common roots. Gene Stoner's design was licensed to Colt, to be militiarized as the M-16. My M-16 was Colt, but Gene sold his separately.

We can drop the semantics it's a military grade weapon.

Isn't that a semantic?

And as you used ad hominems for your main argument, I'll say no more...

Touched a nerve, huh? Ask yourself why.

Actually it's never been produced in .223. And it's sold to the public as an M-16 as well. It takes special permits, but it's not illegal to own a machine gun. There are several machine gun shoots around the country; not as common as car shows

Meanwhile the Brits cannot be trusted to own a lock back pocket knife?

And it's nonsense to quote the 2nd amendment or defence, as that was written when you only had muskets!

The same logic says the 1st Amendment only applies to materials printed on paper. :)

Except for our death by gun crimes is around 38 a year compared to 11,000 in the states, we only have 1/5 of the population so thats a ratio of 190 : 11,000 deaths from firearms.

Even our knife crime doesn't compare which is roughly 200 fatalities a year.

The total sum fatalities in the European Union due to fire arms still doesn't compare roughly around 800.

I don't think you can see how insane you guys look running around shouting about your guns and freedom and then having an atrocity in a school every few years.

Also around 3000 fatalities are accidental! i.e. some idiot shot another idiot while hunting.

You can shoot and have guns in the UK but it is controlled and you can't get military grade stuff outside a shooting range, ever since guess what no gun problem!
