Time is a great healer, but a poor beautician.
Yup - I am familiar with the first of those, and I’m living proof of the second....

You should be back to "normal" in about another 3 weeks.
two months ago, my dr prescribed a drug that cost me $986.00 for a 30 day supply. I asked for the generic and was told it was $200.00 more. This is another way they keep the generics off the shelves, by under cutting the price. then my insurance would no longer pay for it after jan 1st, so it would cost me $1600.00/month.

I hate to admit that i recently almost bought lunch for everyone. its difficult to talk about as I consider myself a healthy, active, strong person on his way to getting my xs on the road. but last fall, I suddenly developed an upper respiratory infection which escalated into a severe case of acute ulcerative colitis. since my last entry, i have been hospitalized and on IV steroids. It felt like "the exorcist" in an opium den from the "deer hunter". I got home last night and feel like i just crawled off a rocket sled. (does anyone remember rocket sleds? no one younger than us would.) generally, you go on solumedrol steroid for a day or two and colitis just vanishes, but they tried 3 times and its not going away. the last week before being admitted, i could no longer eat, was losing blood and 3 lbs a day. at that rate i had 3 weeks before systems failure would commence. well, my doctor, chief of gi in the hospital, didn't just throw me out in the snow. she sent me home on oral steroids and referred me to a specialist at robert woods johnson, which will have the final say. she told me they treat 50 cases a day similar to what i have. losing 30 lbs in the process my weight is now holding at its lowest level by stuffing my face with foods that you don't need teeth to eat. I call it "the little old lady diet" just posting this is an effort for me right now and i see the specialist on 3/4 and will find out what will be. I know there is no ca involved and the cardiologist said my heart is fine. i'm pleased to see you guys are using the robinc health thread and it was my hope that it would continue to thrive in an environment of rough, tough biker dudes like yourselves who may or may not consider this a pertinent topic for a motorcycle forum. but i now see that the vast majority of you are sophisticated and open minded and willing to aknowlege the importance of keeping your bodies in good condition and even helping others by relaying information on what you know on this subject, also. which will keep you all riding a little longer. thanks, guys! GBSo I’ve been knocking out some routine annual Dr visits and one of them that is usually the most nothing visit of them all tripped me up. I’ve gone to the eye doctor every year since I was twelve years old and usually just leave with a new prescription for glasses. This time however it was discovered that I’ve developed a blind spot in the periphery of my left eye.
I’ve already had my eyes dialated and had a close visual inspection by an ophthalmologist and had a glaucoma test. I’m slated to get a detailed retina scan in nine days which may or may not shed some more light on the cause.
If they don’t see something obvious then I’ll probably be scheduled for an MRI to see if I’ve had a small stroke , a small blood clot that has affected the portion of my brain that processes vision, or if I have a tumor on my pituitary gland which in turn puts pressure on the optic nerve. If it was a blood clot, then I’ll probably be put on blood thinners and a statin.
If it is a tumor then my life just got very complicated.
I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself here, there are more tests to be done.
Also, around Christmas, I developed a hernia, it’s more uncomfortable than painful but it needs to be fixed.
I haven’t seen a Dr. for that yet. I really wanted to get my bike up and running before having that surgery.
Ah well, this will all get sorted.........one way or another.
drug is lialda and thats what humana drug plan has me payThat’s absolutely insane! And infuriating!

Thanks, Bob, don't despair. I have every intention of riding again, and putting it together as I know you will. just a bump in the road for both of us.Oh man GB! I am so sorry to hear about all you’ve been through. I feel your pain man, I went through a similar severe and sudden weight loss, 14 years ago while recovering from cancer. That can really knock you down for a while.
I sincerely hope they can figure this out for you and get you back on your feet soon.
Take care of yourself my friend.
Bob
Thanks, 2M. I never found one of those offers I qualified for.
another article on calcium scoring by Dr Oz, and very easy to read

Astragalus root. One dosage supposedly equals 2mg coumadin or warfarin.
Known out here as "loco weed".
Makes horses go bonkers...
It sounds like you are healing according to plan and the swelling and numbness are probably part of the surgical trauma. Small nerves were cut and will regenerate to a degree over time, returning more sensation. When you exercise, you pump oxygenated blood to the surgical wound which will promote healing, as long as you don't over do it. The swelling should subside, also. Remember that there were internal and external sutures. Ask the doctor, next follow up if its's OK to soak in a warm tub and massage the tissue to make it supple and reduce the swelling and stiffness. Best of luck, Pete! - GBWell, I’ve had a busy (but not fun) day doing paperwork and trying to catch up on six lost weeks of consulting. Yup, it’s been six weeks since Dr. Koppert did the nasty to my right knee.
Here is the latest:
I can walk unaided but outside the house I use a cane for safety’s (it’s mushy around here right now). I will, of course, keep working on it, but I feel as though I’m getting there. My entire knee region is still quite swollen and numb - but nobody’s perfect and apparently that will fade over time. Now all I need is a bit of decent weather and I can get back out to the DCW and play with my toys.
- NO pharmaceuticals for at least 10 days;
- 125 degrees of knee flex (130 deg. is the target);
- 3.2 km on the stationary bike while generating 50 watts (so I can light up your life);
- I walk at least 2-3 km without difficulty and can climb stairs in the normal fashion at will.
I’ve got a VERY exciting project coming up soon on my dear Lucille <but it’s a secret> - you’re gonna love it!
Cheers all,
Pete
