How hard should it be to remove the oil sump?

I tried to remove the oil sump today. I removed the 6 bolts by the front drain plug. The filter plate did not move. Is it safe to give it a few whacks with a wooden mallet? I don't think the filter plate has ever been off the bike. I searched the forum, but no one has written how hard/easy the plate should come off.

I use a soft rubber mallet , seems to work ok .

I use a hardwood block and a 16oz. or so hammer. Rap the block sharply but don't go nuts. The plate will pop free. Don't pry at the plate, that could damage the mating faces.

They can be REEEEEally stuck on there, especially if the P.O. used gasket sealer on it (that's a big NO-NO). You can put the drain plug back in and use a block of hardwood against it from all different angles (and a BFH).

I am always afraid of hitting things too hard . I weigh 275 and I hit like a ton so I have to be careful .
