Can you change a 1980 XS650 Special II wiring harness to an older harness if you switch over to a points system instead of the TCI?

All you really need is a switched 12V power source for the coils to run a points system. Go Pamco, screw that 30yr old technology. They don't put points in modern vehicles for a reason.

I did switch to a pamco system and I was thinking about buying a new harness. Since I won't have the TCI, I was wondering if it was possible to switch to an older harness.

Some things changed on the newer bikes such as the headlight only comes on when the bike starts (safety relay), safety switchs on the clutch and side stand etc. Are you keeping the bike stock or making a bobber/chopper? Alot of that stuff can be eliminated for simple wiring but changing the harness for a stock bike could be a challange. You may be better off just modifying what you have.
