Hey y'all. Newbie on the forum. Got my first '80 XS recently and am plotting and scheming for the build.

Has anyone modified an OEM upper triple clamp to fit a new/different handlebar mount? I was thinking of machining pieces that fit into the holes where the way-too-large OEM rubber mounts go with a smaller rubber mount machined into that (new holes would be offset to accommodate new clamp width). It would be secured either sandwich style or via set screws machined into the sidewall of the existing holes. I was thinking of using the oversized (1.25" fat bar) clamp from my KTM 990 for a more "tracker" look. Make sense?

Thanks for any help or pics on subject.

Yeah I get what you are saying, look in the shops forum Hugh sells aluminum plugs for that, kinda. But tapered bar mounts will bolt right through the rubber bushings too? I have had pretty good luck reviving the worn out rubbers by adding in some o-rings to get rid of the slack.
