well guys,,, i finally put the ngk6es... plugs back in yesterday,,, left the cover of the points,,, and prior to plugs going in checked the gaps on both,, i think i previously set them with a piece of 1/4" steel,,, anyway i regapped them to 014" then threw the plugs in,,, electric starter kicked over the motor,, and does not rattle or grind... and to top it off the kick starter even works,,,, well i nearly wet myself... ...i haven,t got the tank on at the moment ,,,, as i,m going to flush it out then put it back on,,,all good news ,,,i think its worth puting the old bendix spring in the vice ,,,,if 4th gear has a good amount of teeth left .. from the rattling/grinding ..regards oldbiker
 
Yes, it's a wonderful free fix. Did mine like 4 years ago and still pretty good. If it starts grinding again, I'll just go in there and bend it again.
