UK Board Tracker Build Thread

Ha ha...that's how it always is!

I was tearing down a gun a few weeks back, and lost a 3/32" bearing that is used for the trigger safety (Stupid design) and I was trying so hard not to drop...of course it shoots off into the nether, and I'm out shopping for a replacement which took a few stops to different hardware stores to find...

I come back and reassemble it only to find that very bearing lodged inside the slide I had in my hand when it went flying. Well, now I have a whole bag of 3/32" bearings...which I'm sure everyone needs on hand. LOL

Today, I got the engine pretty much rebuilt. Tomorrow, I'll get it back in the frame and hopefully the clutch pushrod worked out too.

Thanks vsop:thumbsup:

A little more progress today. I got the PMA fitted and TDC marked up. I fitted the Pamco - a little bit fiddly at times and one of the locators on one of the balance weights from the advance mechanism broke off. Wasn't a problem, as I still had the originals. The rotor had bound against the cam when tightened too and I had to machine a little shoulder to give it clearance. Nothing major, just fiddly.

I worked out the new clutch pushrod length (300mm, if anyone else is doing a similar mod) and fitted that, along with the new slave cylinder on cover. Just need to work out the routing of the braided line. Going up isn't really going to be an option due to the exhaust, so down it will be.

As the 750cc barrels are wider than the originals, they interfered with exhaust. So, I had to shave down the lower fin to ensure clearance. Popped the new oil filter housing too.

A little more done today. I fitted the new sump oil strainer and popped it all back together and gave it a drink of oil. I decided the best place to put the reg rec, was behind the engine, using the old starter motor housing mounts. So, I made an aluminium bracket and it fits nice and tidy, whilst still getting plenty of cooling.

I also bled he brakes and interestingly the clutch. I was keen to see how successful the hydraulic clutch conversion was. Whilst the bike isn't running yet, pull at the lever and pushrod travel, are all very good, so fingers crossed for a working clutch.

Moving onto the rear brake, I machined up an aluminium brake stay rod, with adjusters at each end. I'll need to rebuild the caliper tomorrow as the seals are shot. So hopefully, a working rear brake tomorrow too!
