A ripp'n hardtail bobber build from a seized, desert rat: CALLING ALL DESTROYERS

rear fender revisited:
visited the swap meet today and i found a fender for the rear. its from a wide glide. its not exactly what i was looking for but ended up working out well the flames are pretty dope too:

the fender struts are riveted:

removing the mounting struts involves drilling out the rivets, letting the mounts to separate:

time to shape the fender, to do this i used the end of the front fender to use as a template (sorry flames):

Jesus H Christ! This is probably the best thread on this entire site (by far)! Talk about documentation! And I like how you cited everything. What do you do for a living if ya dont mind me asking? Keep up the good work and keep the updates coming!

rad thanks a lot. I'm an artist and as of almost 2 years ago a bike builder- I've got 3 bikes in queue that ill be blogging about as well...more on that when calling all destroyers gets on the road! thanks again

not much going on right now. waiting for some final bits to arrive. but in the meantime i have been able to weld in place the cross member that the rear fender mounts to and also the rear brake pivot:

the brake pivot is from hughs (http://hughshandbuilt.com/products-services/xs650-brake-pivot-kit/):

now that the brake pivot is in place i have some ideas for the rear brake switch. found this thread that has a few good examples of ways to go about it:

35 days and counting...

Very nice, I also read your other post on the RYCA converted Savage... man what a sweet bike that thing is..

anywho, did you get the exhaust to kick starter clearence figured out? I would like to order a set of pipes from Scott similar to yours and I would prefer to not mess with bendings the kicker if I don't have to

no not yet. focused on other things but i don't think the modification will be much of an issue...

all right lets see:

master cylinder to fit the new front brembo brake caliper (doesn't look like the brembo is gonna work):
IMG_5032.jpg

dual mikuni 34 carbs, kandn filters, new intakes, brass t fitting, breather filter, 2-to-1 throttle cable:

spark plug wires and caps:

exhaust port valves:

tach block off cap (the reason for this order):

a fun size pack of m and m's:

????

let the fun begin....

mikuni 34 install:
michael at 650 central pre-jetted the carbs for the type of riding i plan on doing. since this bike is hopefully a one-kick-start-lane-splitting-wtf-was-that-just-ripped-by-board-bobber-in-the-southern-california-sun there wasn't much that was needed to get close with the jets. of course we won't know until we fire it up but michael sounds like a pro and id put money on him that he got the tuning close!

new intakes installed (they came with stainless steel cap screws so you know I'm happy):
IMG_5038.jpg

once intakes are in, the carbs slip right into place. tighten the hose clamp and you're good to go. of course i couldn't help by hook up the filters as well.
side view of installed carbs:

legit!

more on hooking up throttle and synching later...

handlebar controls:
why is every handlebar control that exists ugly as all sin??? if anyone creates a dope looking and functional switch control i would pay top dollar for it!!! in the meantime i found this one. its a kill switch and a headlight high/low/off control.

ill be using the kill switch as a killswitch
and the headlight switch will be for my signals: high=left / low=off / off=right

heres the control on clutch side:

IMG_5055.jpg

no i don't think thats gonna work at all...

the joy of chopping and customizing:

I'm having major compatibility issues. the sporty brake lever won't fit in the new master cylinder w/ brake light switch perch:

IMG_5047.jpg

IMG_5046.jpg

is this the end of the sporty levers i was gonna use????
ahhhhhh!

brembo:
uhhh so how does this fit:
IMG_5048.jpg

i don't think its gonna work. I've concluded its the wrong caliper..

It is the wrong caliper. Either way, the caliper needs to be flipped right side up so that the two empty bolt holes line up with the bracket. The caliper you are looking for has a bolt hole mid way down the body and one at the top. You can find a picture on Pandemoniums site.
