Mikes keihin carb kit

Now that you pinched it I can see how bad it is. I thought of using the SS clamps. The narrow clamp in the kit is a tad small for me. With the phillps head screw out all the way I felt the pressure needed to push the carb through the retaining ring of the manifold was a bit much. Not wanting to cut/scrape the ring (rubber) in the manifold I got a couple of SS clamps. But if no one is having this trouble with the orignal clamps I may need to think on it some more.

Wally I noticed you didn't care for the 6mm mounting bolts?
Not long enough to put a washer under it eh?
The 3/8's inch you have left doesn't give much to grab the head.

Between the top mount seems the most logical place to lay in the cables but I haven't gotten that far.

The bolts Supplied are not long enough for me the only just screw in & your swinging a set of carbs of that

I used this high tensile bolt because of the colour as the café has brass tappet nuts & anodises gold bolts on the engine covers these bolts are well srewed in.
I also had to buy longer Allan bolts for the second set on the Special as well

Is there no postive catch to the chokes?
Is everyone routing the cable under the backbone, on top or to the side and could that be part of the cable length problems?
How many turns on the idle screw after they touch the slide?

The chokes should click full open. There's nothing in between.

Cable over the head for now was the only way to get the cables right.

As many turns as needed to get it to idle right.

For the record, My chokes click and stay open, no splitting to the inlets evident at present, could it be a temperature thing? ambient temp over here is bloody warm at present. I do have issues with one (yes just one) carb slider that won't return fully even after reseating the cable in the slider, still fiddling.
cheers

Rude thanks for confirming there is an "open" postion. I was beginning to wonder how kick starters managed to pull, kick and stay upright. Maybe I just haven't pulled hard enough.

Don't lift too hard, there is resistance but not enough that I would call significant, but you should feel a "click" .
I've run the cables either side of the frame backbone and secured the cable juction on top of the frame backbone, sits comfortably under the stock 78 tank and gives the best free run for the carb cables, when the cable junction was not secure, turning the bars caused the sliders to lift.
I can't get the picture out of my mind of those kick starters "pulling, kicking and trying to stay upright"
cheers

I don't think an engine that's a two-stroke or a four-stroke really cares what sort of carb is on it just so long as it's the correct size and jetting. That said, I'm not surprised these Keihin PWK carbs work well. Heiden tuning is well-respected and getting a set of carbs to work for a particular application is not exactly impossible. It just takes time and testing. I still have my VM34s and they work fine, though I'm going to lower the needles a notch since they seem to run a little rich in my application.

petesxs,

Well, with a 2 stroke, the mixture settings and jets have to account for the oil in the gas. And the fact that for any given RPM, the 2 stroke sucks twice as often.

@weekendrider, My chokes click open with relative ease...

@Wally, Yes, turn the air screws out to give it more more air. You're not necessarily getting less fuel, just more air per unit of gas. You are leaning out the mixture.

Thanks Travis

Anyone know what the float hight on these carbs should be??
My right is running rich (Back) & left lean (white)
seems to be a lot of Residue fuil left inside carb manifold on right when I take the carb of

Mine were 19mm. The same spec as for 28mm carb?

I just wasn't pulling hard enough to "set" the choke. It's easy just requires more effort than the stock 34's.

Hi Wally,
Sorry I should have addressed the choke comment to Travis and Rude. I wasn't pulling it hard enough to get it to click or set it.

Help's balance the intake pulse's on the carb's. The carb's will have a small amount of vacumm (low pressure) at all time's while running.
