New Last Build Thread "maybe"

Almost done. I set the ground clearance at 3 3/4" and the wheel base at 69 3/4"". Hard to visualize the motor location and balance? I guess I`ll call the Dionne Warwick Psychic Hot Line and ask her what to do next.

I bent the frame uprights with the new 1 1/8" dies. .120 wall tubing on a manual bender is not all that easy. The bends are nicer than the TC Bros hard tail kit though. I did go back to a 72" wheel base. Lots of measuring to do then I`ll notch the rear lower tubes to fit the axle plates. I hope the center of the mounting bosses on the engine cases is the center of the engine as well as the frame. If their not let me know.:umm: I did buy a cheap portable garage heater. 45 outside and almost 70 in the garage.

Yesterday I made a 4th fixture for the frame jig to hold the lower rails in place. If it`s wrong at least it`ll be evenly wrong from L to R, front to back, side to side and top to bottom. Notched (not finished) the rear lowers and and rebent the front upright`s 1/4". I`m at that work 4hrs, stand back 10' and never see what you did stage. Can`t believe I`m going to use that small of a rear sprocket. That is embarrassing.😳 I also went on the "Sharpie Roundup". The good thing about hunting that Sharpie you lost is finding some 10mm wrenches in the process.:yikes:

and on the lift ;^).
17:32 and 18:34 are very reasonable combos. My Blue 750 tracker is at 18:34 and is rather rewarding to ride on the throttle. My first XS650 I went 18:34 and as a 20 year old at the time felt the performance was still pretty good.

Not much visible progress today. I beveled the tube ends and made and welded up end caps. Drilled the tube ends to get ready to plug weld them together. I also priced some 1 1/2" X 3" oval tube. Now that oval tube is out of my system I can get on with the center main tube and engine mounts. Everything else should just fall into place.

Today I removed 2 of the front motor mount boss`s to use as center mounts for the lower motor mount (as used on 70-73). This may present a problem because of the 3 3/4" ground clearance to the lower rail. If I put the mounts in the center of the lower rail the starter blots will only have about 2 3/4" of ground clearance. I can mill off the lower starter bolts and part of the lower starter end plates and take 1/4" off the drain plug and get it right at 3". I welded in the plugs to the rear lower tubes and tack welded the tubes to the axle plates. I left the front tubes unwelded for now so I can fit the cross tubes and main tube with rear motor mounts. Made a couple of cross tubes and Red Green`d a piece of PVC to the steering neck just to see how the main center tube would look. Don`t like it at all. Too tall. I thought I might consider being able to take the motor in and out by lifting it up and forward. Just a thought. I also decided to final weld nothing before I put on the rear wheel and chain to make sure everything lines up. After I get the motor in the frame and the center tube in place the rest should be downhill from there. In fact my wallet is all the way down the hill and has hit rock bottom.:yikes:
